TEMPE, Ariz. - Ryan Altenberger homered, but Xavier baseball fell for a second straight game as No. 23 Arizona State rallied for an 8-3 win to claim a series victory against the Musketeers on Saturday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

Xavier battled back from an early deficit, tying the game at 3-3 after the second on Altenberger's homer and a run-scoring single by Chris Givin. The Sun Devils would rally for a four-run fifth, however, en route to another win.

XU fell to 5-7 overall, while ASU remains undefeated at 14-0.

The series wraps up on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

XU AT THE PLATE

• Ryan Altenberger led XU with a 2-for-4 line, hitting a solo homer in the second and also doubling in the game.
• Chris Givin continued a productive series, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. His base hit in the second inning tied the game at 3-3.
• Conor Grammes (1-for-3), Jack Housinger (1-for-4, 2B) and Andrew Sexton (1-for-3, R) also provided hits for XU.
• Xavier left six aboard in the game and scored all three runs in the second inning.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Sophomore Griffin Lanoue made his second start of the season and lasted 4.1 innings, allowing six earned runs and striking out three.
• Freshman Lane Flamm came on in the fifth to get the final two outs, striking out one and walking two.
• Senior Matt Kent gave XU two innings of relief, striking out three and allowing one run.
• Senior Sam Czabala turned in a scoreless eighth, working around a walk.

HOW THEY SCORED

SECOND INNING | Ryan Altenberger homered to right field to lead off the frame, putting Xavier on the scoreboard for the first time in the series. After Luke Stephenson reached on a passed ball, Andrew Sexton singled through the left side to put two on. Batting next, Chris Givin singled to left and went to second on an error as both runs came across to tie the score at 3-3.
