Musketeers Take Series Opener at Creighton, 8-1

Chris Givin goes 3-of-5 at the plate with a double and a triple
OMAHA, Neb. -Â On an eight-run day, three early runs would be all the Musketeers needed as Xavier topped Creighton, 8-1, on the road on Friday evening. Xavier moved to 18-23 overall and 8-1 in BIG EAST play with the win.
Xavier took its first lead in the top of the second, a one run advantage that the Bluejays answered in the bottom of the inning. Xavier score two more in the top of the third and held a two-run lead until the eighth when a two-run inside the park homer for Allbry Major extended that lead to six. Three more runs in the ninth for Xavier set the final score at 8-1 in favor of the Musketeers.
The series continues tomorrow at 3:00 p.m ET with the series finale set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

SECOND INNING | Â Jack Housinger singled up the middle with one out, and a Natale Monastra single with two outs sent Housinger home to give Xavier a 1-0 lead
THIRD INNING | Jake Shepski doubled down the right line to get into scoring position with one out, then advanced to third after Allbry Major put the ball in play. With two outs, Matt Warkentin singled to left field, sending Shepski home to put Xavier ahead, 2-1. Chris Givin doubled to bring Warkentin home and put Xavier ahead, 3-1.
EIGHTH INNING | Jake Shepski got aboard to lead off the inning on a fielding error to give Allbry Major a baserunner. Major hit the ball to deep center field, legging out an inside the park home run to score a pair and make the Xavier lead, 5-1.
NINTH INNING | After Conor Grammes reached first on a fielder's choice, he stole second to get into scoring position, then came home on a Jake Shepski double to left center to make the score 6-1. With Shepski still on second, Matt Warkentin singled to left field to score Shepski, making the score 7-1. Chris Givin tripled to center field to send Warkentin home, setting the final score at 8-1.

- Chris Givin collected three hits on the day, going 3-of-5 at the plate with his fourth triple of the season, bringing his career total to 13, just two shy of tying third place all-time in Xavier's record books at 15. Givin ended the day a home run short of the cycle, and collected two RBIs.
- Allbry Major was one of three Musketeers to collect two RBIs after legging out an inside the park, two-run homer, going 2-of-5 at the plate on the day.
- Matt Warkentin also collected a pair of RBIs on two hits. Warkenting also scored a pair for the Musketeers.
- Jake Shepski scored three runs for the Musketeers, going 2-of-5 at the plate with an RBI.
- Jack Housinger (1-of-4) and Conor Grammes (1-of-5) each contributed a hit and scored a run. Natale Monastra and Kody Darcy each contributed a run as well.
- Xavier finished the day with 13 hits and three walks, with one base on balls each for Housinger, Luke Franzoni and Darcy.

- Damien Richard went 5.2 innings in the start, striking out four while allowing just one run on five hits and three walks to collect his first win of the season
- Trevor Olson come in for the final inning of the sixth, getting the out with the first batter faced.
- Trey Schramm entered in the seventh and pitched two complete innings with two hits and no runs allowed.
- Matt Kent pitched the ninth inning, facing the minimum to seal the win for the Musketeers.
