Three Musketeers hit home runs against Colonels

RICHMOND, Ky. - Xavier baseball homered three times, but were unable to overcome a pair of multi-run innings by EKU, falling 5-3 at Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday evening.

Xavier homered in the top of the first, but three runs in the bottom of the first put the Colonels ahead. The Musketeers cut into the EKU lead with another home run in the second inning but two more runs for the Colonels in the fourth extended the lead out to three. Xavier added one more home run, in the fifth, setting the score at 5-3.

Xavier returns to the field on Friday, April 6 when the Musketeers host Georgetown in the BIG EAST opener.

XU AT THE PLATE

Matt Warkentin went 2-of-4 at the plate, including his fifth home run of the season. It marked his ninth multiple-hit game of the season, extending his hit streak to six games and his on-base streak to 10.
Conor Grammes hit his fifth home run of the season, extending his on-base streak to 12. Grammes and Warkentin both lead the team with five home runs.
Natale Monastra collected his third home run of the season, going 1-of-4 at the plate. Monastra extended his hit streak to three and his on-base streak to 10.
Tonight's game marks the eighth time this season the Musketeers have hit multiple home runs.
Luke Franzoni also contributed a hit, going 1-of-4
Jack Housinger and Land Flamm each had a pair of walks. Ryan Altenberger also had a walk, making his on-base streak 11.
Overall, Xavier had five hits and five walks.

XU ON THE MOUND

Henry Miller made his first start of the season, pitching 0.1 innings with two hits and three runs allowed
Trevor Olson pitched 1.0 innings, allowing no earned runs on three hits and a walk.
Nathan Berg pitched 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk with three strike-outs.
Nick Zwack pitched the fifth inning, striking out a pair with just one hit allowed.
Sam Czabala pitched the sixth, striking out the three batters he faced.
Trey Shramn pitched the the seventh inning, striking out one and allowing no runs on two hits and a walk.
Jake Shepski pitched the eighth, allowing no hits or runs and just one walk.
