Men's Tennis Falls at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS - Xavier men's tennis returned to the court today, falling, 5-2, to BIG EAST foe Butler. Xavier closes out the regular season next week with a home match against Marquette on Sunday, April 14 at 10 a.m.

Xavier took the 1-0 lead with the doubles point, with Jack Dykema and Brett Winters taking the 6-4 win in the No. 1 spot to start the Musketeers off, and Matthew Graft and Connor LaFavre taking the No. 2 spot with a 6-3 win. Michael Lee and Jan Vrba were tied 4-4 in the No. 3 spot when the point was decided.
Butler got the point back to tie it 1-1 with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 2 spot over Jack Dykema. The Bulldogs took the lead on a 6-4, 6-2 win in the No. 3 spot over Matthew Graft, and extended it to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Michael Lee in the No. 4 spot.
Trent Smith claimed the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-3, to pull Xavier within one, 3-2, but after going down to tiebreakers, Connor LaFavre fell 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the No. 5 spot to secure the fourth point for Butler.
Brett Winters took Mason Dragos to a third set in the No. 1 spot, falling 7-5, 6-7 (6), 10-8.
