CINCINNATI - Xavier men's soccer coach Andy Fleming has announced the promotion of Cam Olson to assistant coach. Olson previously spent the last three seasons as the program's director of soccer operations.
Olson joined the men's soccer program in the spring of 2016. During his time with the Musketeers, Xavier has posted a 25-21-12 (13-12-2 BIG EAST) record with a 4-5-4 mark against teams ranked in the top-25.
A total of 11 players have earned All-BIG EAST honors, including three first-team selections during Olson's time at Xavier. Cory Brown was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in 2016 and went on to be selected in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft (3rd Round – 62nd Overall Pick). In 2017, Matt Vasquenza was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Off the field, the Musketeers earned the USCAA Team Academic Award for the ninth consecutive year in the spring of 2019. The team posted a 3.50 team grade point average in the spring of 2019.
Prior to his time at Xavier, Olson was an assistant coach at Franklin College (Ind.) for one season (2015).
The Boston, Mass., native earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Allegheny in 2015. He also holds a master's degree in coaching education and athlete development from Xavier.
"With four former assistants now as head coaches, our past few staffs have moved thru the ranks very quickly with shorts stays here," said Fleming. "Being able to finally promote from within and have some continuity is exciting and the reception from our returning players and recruits has been tremendous as evidenced by our team's vibe this past spring.
"With myself being 10 years in (at Xavier), this is how I always envisioned our coaching totem pole panning out and I think in many ways this is a milestone for any sustainable program."
