
Meet the Newcomers: Women's Swimming

CINCINNATI - Prior to the kick-off of the 2019-20 season, meet Xavier women's swimming's roster additions. Xavier added seven to its women's swimming roster, Brooke Atkins, Clare Bosse, Grace Huber, Julianne Libler, Erin Merke, Sophia Romero and Emma Swabb.

Brooke Atkins
Atkins joins the Musketeers from Indianapolis, Ind. where she attended Lawrence North High School. She competed with the Lawrence Swim Team and the Fishers Area Swimming Tigers, where she excelled in IM and backstroke.

In her senior season, Atkins was the IHSAA Sectional Champion in the 100 back, and placed second in the 200 IM as Lawrence North went on to place third as a team in the sectional championship.
Â
In the Indiana Senior State Championships in March of 2019, she placed fourth in the 200 IM as her club team went on to claim the state championship.
Clare BosseÂ
Bosse comes to Xavier from New Windsor, N.Y. where she attended Our Lady of Lourdes High School. She competed with the Newburgh Sharks, Patriot Swim Team, and NYS Aquatics, excelling in freestyle and IM.

Bosse was a four-year member of the varsity team at Our Lady of Lourdes, where she held seven records at the time of her graduation. She collected a pair of fourth-place finishes at the New York State Meet, in the 100 free and 200 free, and was named All-Section in each year of her career.

Bosse is the daughter of Ray and Sherri Bosse, who were both collegiate swimmers. Ray swam at Army West Point and Sherri competed at the University of Nebraska. Bosse has two older brothers, Tim and Matt. Tim was a member of the swim team at Seton Hall and Matt swam at Iona.
Grace HuberÂ
Huber, a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, comes to Xavier from Anchorage, Ky. She also competed with the Lakeside Swim Team, excelling in backstroke.

Huber was a four-time finalist at the Kentucky State Championship in the 100 back, finishing in the top seven in the event in each of her four years of high school.

Huber also competed in the 100 back and the 200 back at the Kentucky 13 and Over State Course Championships in 2018, placing seventh in both events. At the SE NAC Speedo Music City Invitational, she took first in the 200 back as a junior.
Julianne Libler
Libler comes to Xavier from Howell, Mich., where she attended Brighton High School. A standout in breaststroke and IM, she also competed for Club Wolverine.

During her senior season, Libler was a finalist in the 100 breast for a Brighton team that finished second place, missing the top spot by two points. Libler finished in the top-eight as an individual in the 100 breast, and helped 200 free relay and 200 medley relay teams to top-five finishes.

She also was a three-time finalist at the 2019 Michigan Swimming Open Championship, finishing top-eight in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM for Club Wolverine. Her club claimed the state title in 2019 after winning the NCSA Summer Swimming National Championship in August 2018.

Libler plans to major in Nursing at Xavier. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Mary Libler, who were both student-athletes at DePaul. Jeffrey played golf for the Blue Demons and Mary competed in track. Libler has five siblings, JJ, Josh, Jordyn, Joey and Josie.
Erin MerkeÂ
Â
Merke comes to Xavier from Eagleville, Pa. where she attended Germantown Academy and competed with the Phoenixville Branch YMCA, excelling in freestyle sprints.
Â
Merke is a four-time finalist at the Eastern Interscholastic Swimming Championships, coming away as the 50 free individual champion in 2018. She also collected top-10 finishes in the event in the 100 free, 100 fly and 100 back during her high school career.
Â
She earned all-conference each year of high school, and earned All-America honors in 400 free relay and the 200 medley relay during her high school career.
Â
Merke plans to major in Actuarial Science at Xavier. She is the daughter of Tracey Arnold-Merke and Sess Merke. Her mother was a member of the swim team at Rider University. She has an older brother, Darius.
Sophia RomeroÂ
Romero is originally from Broomfield, Colo., where she competed for Legacy High School and Front Range Barracudas club team.

A butterfly specialist, Romero was a four-year member of the varsity team at Legacy, capping off her career with top-10 finishes at the CHSAA 5A State Championship in the 100 fly, 200 free relay and 400 free relay.
Â
During her career, Romero earned Most Valuable honors and was named First Team All-American and recorded the most points scored in the season for Legacy.
Â
Romero plans to major in Chemical Science at Xavier. She is the daughter of Frank and Teri Romero. She has an older brother, Nate.
Emma SwabbÂ
Swabb comes to Xavier from Brookville, Ohio where she attended Brookville High School where she was a standout in the 100 free and 200 free, as well as a member of the volleyball team. Swabb also competed with the Kleptz YMCA and South Family YMCA. Â
A four-time state qualifier with Brookville, Swabb capped off her career with a pair of finalist appearances at the OHSAA State Championship in February 2019, in the 100 free and 200 free, finishing in the top-eight in both events.

Swabb was also a two-time finalist in both events at the Ohio Southwest District Championships held in Oxford, finishing in the top five as both a junior and a senior in the 100 free and the 200 free.

She is the daughter of Karen and Rick Swabb. She has two siblings, Matthew and Ricky Swabb.

Brooke Atkins
Indianapolis, Ind.
