Women's Tennis Announces Spring Schedule

CINCINNATI- Xavier women's tennis head coach Doug Matthews announced a 21-match regular season schedule for spring of 2020. The Musketeers will begin their dual schedule on January 18, 2020 at Purdue. Xavier will host eight home matches, leading into the BIG EAST Championships, which are set to begin April 16, 2020 in Cayce, South Carolina.

- The Musketeers will play at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Indiana.
- The Boilermakers finished last season with an 11-13 record, including a 5-4 record at home.
- Purdue picked up two wins against BIG EAST opponents last season, defeating DePaul and Butler on Jan. 19.
- Purdue fell to No. 17 ranked Michigan in the second round of the BIG 10 Tournament last year, 0-4. They finished with a 5-6 record in conference play.Â
- Xavier will host Mississippi State for their first home match of the season.
- Mississippi State ended the 2018-19 season with a 14-13 record and went 2-8 on the road.
- They fell to Texas A&M in the second round of the SEC Championships after defeating Auburn in the opening round.
- MSU's Emma Antonaki qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships but fell in the opening round. Antonaki will be a Sophomore in 2020.
- Xavier defeated Dayton, 7-0, last season on March 1. This extended their win streak to five matches in a row.
- In 13 matches dating back to 2006, Xavier is undefeated against Dayton in Dual action. The Musketeers are 7-0 at home and 6-0 at Dayton.
- The Flyers finished last season with a 4-21 record and went 0-16 on the road. They ended the season with a 13-match losing streak.Â
- NKU finished last season with a 7-21 record and finished 2-6 in road matches.
- The Musketeers defeated NKU 6-1 last season on March 8.
- Xavier is a perfect 11-0 against NKU dating back to 2008.Â
- The Hoosiers ended last season with a 16-11 overall record and went 13-4 at home.
- At the Hoosier Classic in September, the Musketeers picked up 15 singles victories and 13 doubles wins in the tournament hosted by Indiana. Four of those wins came against opponents from IU.
- Xavier defeated Indiana, 4-0, on the road last season on Jan. 26.
- Xavier is seeking their first win against Michigan State in program history. The Musketeers are 0-4 against the Spartans dating back to 2016.
- Last season, the Musketeers fell to the Spartans don Feb. 1. This was their final loss before beginning their historic win-streak, as the women did not lose again until April 22 in the BIG EAST Championship.
- Michigan State finished last season 15-11 overall, going 9-2 at home and 4-5 on the road. The Spartans fell in the opening round of the Big Ten tournament to Purdue.
- Montana finished last season with a 4-17 overall record and went winless at neutral sites in 2018-19.
- This will be the first meeting between Montana and Xavier.
- The Zags finished the regular season in 2018-19 with a 13-10 overall record and went a perfect 8-0 at home. Gonzaga won three matches at neutral sites last season.
- Gonzaga will play Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. on Feb. 15 before taking on the Musketeers
- This will be the first ever meeting between the Zags and Musketeers.
- Miami finished last season with a 12-11 record last year and won seven matches at home.
- Last season, the Musketeers defeated the RedHawks, 6-1, on Feb. 17. This gave Miami one of their two home losses last year.
- Historically, Xavier holds a 7-6 advantage over Miami dating back to their first meeting in 2005. Xavier won their first match against the RedHawks, 4-3, in Oxford.
- The Musketeers are 1-1 against Cleveland State all time dating back to 2012. Xavier won the last matchup, 6-1, at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club on Feb. 15, 2013.
- The Vikings will take on BIG EAST member Seton Hall at home on Feb. 16Â
- Marquette finished last season with a 12-10 overall record. The Golden Eagles went 7-1 at home last season and 4-2 overall in conference play.
- The Musketeers defeated Marquette last season, 4-3, on March 23.
- Xavier is 6-2 all time in matches against the Golden Eagles dating back to 2014. Their only loss to Marquette was in 2018 in Milwaukee.
- The Blue Demons finished their 2018-19 season with an 11-12 record and recorded a 6-2 record in BIG EAST Conference play.
- DePaul fell to the Musketeers in the regular season, 6-1, on March 31.
- The Blue Demons defeated Xavier in the BIG EAST Tournament Championship in 2019 as a No. 2 seed.
- Last season, Wichita State finished with a 14-10 overall record. They finished 3-4 on the road and went 5-2 in natural site matches.
- This will be the first meeting between the Musketeers and Shockers.Â
- ODU finished last season 19-5 and went a perfect 11-0 at home.
- The Monarchs fell to Virginia, 4-2, in the opening round of the NCAA tournament after defeating Rice in the Conference USA Championship
- In their last matchup, the Musketeers fell to ODU, 4-1, on Jan. 30, 2017.

- Penn finished the 2018-19 season with a 16-5 record and went 4-1 in neutral site matches.
- Historically, Xavier is 1-0 in matchups against Penn. The Musketeers defeated Penn, 4-3, on Feb. 18, 2018.
- Last season, St. John's finished 13-7 overall and went 5-2 in BIG EAST Conference play.
- Xavier and St. John's did not meet in the regular season last year.
- The Musketeers defeated the Red Storm, 4-3, in the semi-final round of the BIG EAST Tournament in 2019.
- Xavier is 5-0 against St. John's dating back to their first matchup in 2016.
- Villanova finished the 2019 season with an 11-11 record and went 3-4 in conference play.
- Last season, Xavier defeated Villanova, 7-0, on Feb. 8.
- Historically, the Musketeers are a perfect 7-0 against the Wildcats. Â
- Memphis finished last season 13-10 overall and went 5-5 on the road.
- The Tigers fell in the second round of the American Athletic Conference Championships. UCF defeated Memphis, 4-0, in Orlando, Fla.
- Memphis defeated Xavier in their last matchup, 4-2, on April 7, 2017.
- Last season, Cincinnati finished with a 12-11 record and went 5-1 at home.
- The Bearcats fell to Xavier, 4-3, last season.
- Historically, the Musketeers and Bearcats are 7-7 dating back to 2005.
- Davidson went 14-11 last season and had a 4-7 road record in 2019.
- Davidson fell to VCU in the semifinal round of the A-10 tournament last year.
- Xavier is 1-0 in matchups against Davidson. They last met in 2014.
- Butler finished the 2018-19 season 11-14 and went 4-8 on the road.
- Last year, the Musketeers defeated the Bulldogs, 7-0, in the regular season finale, giving Xavier their 20th win and 18th consecutive victory.
- Xavier has only fallen to Butler one time in their 15 meetings, dating back to 2006.
- Butler has not scored a point against Xavier in a match since 2013 when they fell to the Musketeers, 6-1.Â
- Last season, Xavier defeated Georgetown and St. John's in the first two rounds of the BIG EAST Tournament.
- The Musketeers advanced to the championship round, falling to DePaul narrowly, 3-4.
- The Musketeers will look to win their second BIG EAST Tennis title in school history. Xavier last won the BIG EAST Conference in 2015-16.
