Xavier Faces Toledo On The Final Day Of The Xavier Invitational

Musketeers are looking to sweep their own event.
CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University Musketeers, 2-0, are aiming to sweep the 2020 Xavier Invitational with a win over the University of Toledo Rockets on Friday at noon on FS1 and 700 WLW. XU is coming off a 51-50 win over Bradley yesterday afternoon.
Xavier leads the series with Toledo 14-11, including five straight wins over the Rockets. XU won the last meeting 78-64 at Cintas Center in the first round of the 2019 NIT.
Toledo's Associate Head Coach is former Xavier standout guard Jeff Massey. A 1995 Xavier graduate, Massey helped guide Xavier to the 1994 NIT Quarterfinals as a junior and the 1995 NCAA Tournament in the late Skip Prosser's first season as head coach.

• Xavier is opening the 2020-21 season with three games in three days and 12 games in 29 days. Each of its first seven games are in Cincinnati, including six games at Cintas Center and the Dec. 6 Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout at Cincinnati.
• Xavier dished off 34 assists vs. Oakland, second only in Xavier history to the 36-assist effort vs. Long Island in the 2001-02 season (12-8-01).
• Xavier sophomore Zach Freemantle posted a double-double vs. Oakland with career highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds and a career-high four assists; he followed that up with 19 points on the strength of a career-high three 3-pointers vs. Bradley.
• Xavier senior Paul Scruggs dished off a career-high 10 assists vs. Oakland and ollowed that up with a 17-point, 7-assist game vs. Bradley.
• Xavier's Paul Scruggs, preseason BIG EAST Second Team selection, is among the 20 watch list members for the 2021 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award.
• Xavier senior Paul Scruggs has scored 977 career points and is just 23 points shy of becoming the 57th member of Xavier's 1,000 Point Club. Fellow senior Jason Carter has scored 1,065 collegiate points, including 836 at Ohio.
• Xavier sophomore KyKy Tandy hit a career-high six 3-pointers on his way to a career-high tying 18 points to go with a career-high seven assists vs. Oakland.
• Xavier freshman Dwon Odom, who has started the first two games, hit what proved to be the game-winning shot vs. Bradley with less than four seconds left.
