Kody Darcy hits first home run of 2020 to give Xavier third inning lead
OXFORD, MS - Xavier baseball jumped out to a narrow lead early but a big fifth inning for No. 15 Ole Miss was too much for the Musketeers to overcome, falling 13-3 in game three of the series on Sunday afternoon at Swayze Field.
A Kody Darcy solo home run gave the Musketeers the lead in the third, and the Rebels immediately answered with a solo shot of their own to tie the game, 1-1, going into the fourth. The tie held to the bottom of the fifth, when an eight-run inning for the Rebels broke the game open, 9-1. Ole Miss added two more in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-1 headed into the seventh.
Faced with a 10-run rule due to rain headed into the seventh, the Musketeers, trailing 11-1, needed to score in the top of the inning to keep the game going. Xavier loaded the bases with no outs and brought two runs around to keep the game going at 11-3. The 11-3 score held until the bottom of the eight when a two-run Ole Miss homer ended the game at 13-3 due to the run rule.
Xavier heads to top-five Louisville, playing the Cardinals on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 3:00 PM.

3RD INNING | With one out in the third inning, Kody Darcy sent the ball over the left center fence to give Xavier the 1-0 lead.
7TH INNING | Jack Housinger led off the seventh inning with a single up the middle, followed by a walk by Luke Stephenson and a single for Ryan Altenberger to load the bases with no outs. Garrett Schultz hit to the left side of the field, reaching on a fielders choice and sending Housinger home. Ole Miss threw to first, attempting a double play, but an error on the throw by the shortstop sent Stephenson home for to make it 11-3.

- Ethan Bosacker entered in the fifth, pitching 0.2 innings, with eight earned runs on six hits and two walks.
- Shawn Hepler entered for the final out of the fifth, going 1.1 innings with two earned runs allowed on one hit with a pair of hit batters.
- Jonathan Kelly, who made the start at DH, took the mound in the seventh, walking one with no hits to hold the Rebels scoreless.
- Trey Schramm entered in the eighth, pitching 0.2 innings with two strikeouts. Schramm allowed two runs on two hits, including what was effectively a walk-off two-run homer with the 10 run-rule in place.
