Lyman joins the Musketeers after spending las season at West Virginia
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's tennis head coach Doug Matthews announced the addition of transfer Katherine Lyman to the roster for the fall 2020. Lyman, who spent one season at West Virginia, was a four-star recruit with a national ranking as high as No. 26 (TennisRecruiting.net) during her prep career. She will have four years of eligibility remaining after having her freshman season cut short.
"We are excited to have Katherine join the Xavier tennis family," said Matthews. "She was a highly rated recruit and had a great first year at West Virginia. She is also an outstanding individual that will represent Xavier in a positive way and continue to build our already strong team culture."
As a freshman at WVU, Lyman collected 11 total wins in a shortened dual season. She finished with a 6-2 singles record in dual play, winning six straight singles matches to start the season, primarily in the No. 4 spot. Her two losses both came in the No. 3 spot against top-30 ranked squads. In doubles play, Lyman went 5-3 with one unfinished match, playing in the No. 1 spot with Anne-Sophie Courteau.
Lyman played the bulk of her high school career at Oceanside Collegiate Academy in Mount Pleasant, S.C., where she capped off her prep career by earning the 2019 South Carolina Player of the Year and earned a spot on the 2019 All-Lowcountry Girls Tennis Team and South Carolina All-State Girls Tennis Team. Following her senior year, she was ranked No. 64 nationally and the 20th-best player in the Southeast Region.
During her high school career, Lyman was the 2017 Chick-fil-A Palmetto Championship winner and the 2016 United State Tennis Association (USTA) Southern Junior Tournament Champion. She also won a state championship with Wando High School in 2016.
Lyman is the daughter of Mark and Elizabeth Lyman, and has one brother and one sister.
