Series finale set for Sunday afternoon

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Xavier baseball picked up a win in game three of the series against Wofford, opening up a Sunday double header with a 4-2 win in seven innings.

Xavier led off the first two innings with solo home runs, and a two-run homer in the fourth gave the Musketeers the cushion to take the win, despite Wofford runs in the second and sixth innings. Ethan Bosacker allowed just one run in 4.1 innings in his first start to get the win, and Jonathan Kelly came in to close out the game, picking up the save.

Xavier and Wofford play the series finale in game two of Sunday's double-header, a nine-inning outing.

XU AT THE PLATE

Luke Stephenson led Xavier with two RBIs on a two-run homer in the fourth inning, finishing 1-3 at the plate.
Jared Cushing went 2-3 at the plate, picking up a RBI and a run on his first inning home run.
Luke Franzoni went 1-2 at the plate with a walk, scoring two runs and collecting an RBI on his second inning solo home run, his third homer of the year.
Alex Helmin and Jack Housinger each hit a double and took a walk.

XU ON THE MOUND

Ethan Bosacker made his first start as a Musketeer, going 4.1 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits. Bosacker struck out four and walked four and picked up the win to move to 1-0 on the season.
Jonathan Kelly switched from DH to pitch for the final two outs of the fifth inning. Kelly went 2.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out five and picking up the save, his second of the season.

HOW THE SCORED

1ST INNING | Jared Cushing led off the game with a home run to left field to put Xavier ahead, 1-0.

2ND INNING | Luke Franzoni led off the second inning with a homer to left field, his third of the season, to push Xavier's lead to 2-0.

4TH INNING | After Wofford cut Xavier's lead to one, 2-1, in the bottom of the second, Luke Franzoni took a two-out walk, and Luke Stephenson hit a home run to left field to bring in two runs, putting Xavier ahead, 4-1.
