Musketeers move to 3-4 on the season, head to Auburn next weekend

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Xavier baseball closed out the four-game series at Wofford at Sunday, falling 8-4 in the second game of a double header to finish 1-3 in the series and 3-4 overall.

Xavier took a two-run lead in the top of the first, but the Terriers got a run back in the bottom of the inning, then took the lead on a five-run second inning. Xavier scored a run in the fourth and seventh frames to pull within two, but two more runs for Wofford in the bottom of the eight made it 8-4 deficit. In the top of the ninth, Xavier loaded the bases with the tying run at the plate but were unable to bring the runs home.

Xavier returns to action next weekend, traveling to Auburn for a three-game series, beginning on Friday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m. ET.

XU AT THE PLATE

Luke Franzoni went 2-4 at the plate, collecting two RBI.
Natale Monastra finished 2-3 at the plate, scoring a pair of runs.
Jonathan Kelly finished with a pair of hits.
Jack Housinger scored a run in the first inning after talking a base on balls, stealing second, advancing to third then home on wild pitches.
Kody Darcy took two walks on the day and collected an RBI on a fielders choice.
Luke Stephenson and Alex Helmin each had a hit for the Musketeers.
Xavier matched Wofford with eight hits for the game.

XU ON THE MOUND

Griffin Lanoue went 1.1 innings in his second start of the year, allowing six runs on four hits and three walks.
Michael Dillon entered for the final two outs of the second inning, going 1.2 innings total, not allowing a run on one hit and two walls.
Trevor Olson entered for the fourth, going 4.0 innings without allowing a run, and only giving up one hit. Olson struck out four along the way.
Dorsey Chatham entered for the eighth inning, with two runs scoring, neither earned runs on two hits. Chatham struck out a pair and walked one.

HOW THE SCORED

1ST INNING | Jack Housinger took a one-out walk, stole second, advanced to third and then came home on wild pitches to make it 1-0 Xavier. The Musketeers added another run after Natale Monastra hit a two-out double, coming home on a Luke Franzoni single to left field.

4TH INNING | Luke Stephenson led the inning off with a double, advanced to third on a one-out single from Alex Helmin, and came home on a fielder choice after Kody Darcy put the ball into play to make it 6-3 in favor of the Terriers.

7TH INNING | With two outs, Natale Monastra reached on a fielding error, advancing to second base, then came home on single from Luke Franzoni to make it 6-4 in favor of Wofford.
