Xavier returns to action next Friday at Kentucky

MUNCIE, Ind. - Xavier men's tennis were in a battle down to the final point with Ball State, but fell to the Cardinals, 4-3, in the season opener.

Xavier returns to action on Friday, February 12 at 11:00 a.m when the Musketeers travel to Lexington, Ky. to face Kentucky.

THE MATCH

In doubles play, Xavier fell behind early with Brett Winters and Cambell Nakayama falling 6-4 in the No. 2 spot. The Musketeers evened it up with a 6-4 win in the No. 1 spot for Arnaud Restifo and Matthew Graft, then took the doubles point with a 7-6 win in No. 3 doubles for Srdan Pejic and Shashank Reddy.

In singles play, Ball State tied it up with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Shashank Reddy in the No. 6 spot. The Musketeers retook the lead with a two set win for Arnaud Restifo in the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-3.

The cardinals pulled back into a 2-2 draw with a win in the No. 2 spot, 7-6, 6-3, over Brett Winters. Xavier moved back in front after Matthew Graft took the 7-5, 6-4 win in the No. 5 spot.

In the No. 3 spot, BSU picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Cambell Nakayama to put the match in a 3-3 draw with one point undecided.

In the deciding match in the No. 4 spot, BSU's Vince Orlando took a 7-5 win in the first set, and Srdan Pejic answered for the Musketeers in the second, winning 6-4. In the third set, the pair played even to 3-3 before Orlando closed out the 6-3 win to seal the 4-3 loss for the Musketeers.
