Men's Basketball Nearly Erases 19-Point Deficit but Falls at Georgetown

KyKy Tandy's 14 points, all scored in the second half, lead the way for Xavier
WASHINGTON, D.C. - KyKy Tandy's 14-point second half helped the Musketeers nearly come back from being down 19 points with 11 minutes remaining, but Xavier was unable to completely erase the deficit, falling 72-66 at Georgetown on Tuesday evening. Xavier moves to 13-6 overall and 6-6 in BIG EAST play.
Georgetown steadily built a lead in the first half, going into the break up 15, then pushed the lead to 19 with 11 minutes to play. Xavier outscored the Hoyas 30-17 over the final 11 minutes but were unable to get closer than three.

FIRST HALF |
- Both teams started out slow, with neither team scoring in the first 2:20 of the game. The two teams traded buckets for the next five minutes before Georgetown went on an 11-2 run to go ahead by 10, 24-14, with six minutes remaining before halftime.
- The Hoyas would build the lead out to as many as 15 twice, including right before going into the break, going into the locker room up 38-23.
- Adam Kunkel led Xavier with six point in the first half, on 2-of-2 shooting from outside.
- Paul Scruggs had four before being limited by foul trouble.
- Georgetown held a 26-15 advantage on rebounds. Xavier was led by five boards for Zach Freemantle. The Hoyas had 10 offensive boards to six for Xavier, and lead 12-0 on second chance points at the break.

- Georgetown maintained the double-digit lead for much of the second half, leading by as many as 19, 55-36, with 11 minutes remaining. Three pointers from Dwon Odom, Zach Freemantle, and KyKy Tandy helped bring the deficit to single digits over the next four minutes, trailing only nine, 60-51, with just under seven minutes remaining.
- Another three from Tandy kick started a run where Xavier outscored the Hoyas 14-7 over the next 4:19 to cut the lead down to three, 68-65 with under two minutes remaining. Tandy had seven points in that stretch.
- Georgetown hit four free throws to close out the game and the Musketeers were unable to get closer than three, falling by a score of 72-66.
- Tandy had 14 points in the second half to lead the way for Xavier.
- Xavier turned up the intensity on the boards, out rebounding GU 29-20 in the second half, grabbing 11 offensive boards to just five for the Hoyas. Freemantle had seven boards after the break.

- KyKy Tandy's team-high 14 points all came in the second half, and is his highest point total in BIG EAST play this season.
- Zach Freemantle finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds, his sixth-straight double-double.
- Colby Jones added 11 for the Musketeers, and grabbed seven rebounds.
