Musketeers Get Bats Going in 16-8 Win Over Cincinnati

UC took a one-run lead into the fourth, where Xavier responded with a three-run frame featuring a pair of home runs, from Alex Helmin and Matthew DePrey. Six runs in the top of the fifth put Cincinnati ahead 7-3, but the Musketeers used three hits to pick up two more runs to pull within two in the bottom of the inning. UC added one more tally in the sixth, the Bearcats' final run of the game, and the Musketeers responded by batting around, scoring six runs on four hits in the inning to go ahead for good in the sixth. Xavier added five more runs in the seventh, fueled by a grand slam from Natale Monastra and Jackson Kaplowitz's first career home run.
The Musketeers and the Bearcats close out the four-game series on Monday at UC, with first pitch set for 4:00 p.m. at UC Baseball Stadium.

- Natale Monastra went 3-4 at the plate, including a grand slam in the seventh inning, to collect a career-best seven RBI for the game. Monastra came around to score three times.
- Alex Helmin went 3-4 at the plate, hitting his second home run of the season in the fourth and hitting two singles in the bottom of the sixth. Helmin collected three RBI and scored a pair of runs.
- In his one at-bat for the day in the seventh, Jackson Kaplowitz hit his first career homer to cap a five-run inning for the Musketeers.
- Matthew DePrey, who made his first career start at catcher, collected his first hit as a Musketeer, a solo home run in the fourth. DePrey finished 1-3, with a run and an RBI.
- Jack Housinger went 2-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles, scoring three runs. He extended his team-best hitting streak to three games and his team-high matching streak of reaching safely to seven games.
- Luke Stephenson collected a pair of RBI scored a pair of runs, reaching safely for a seventh-straight game as well.
- Tyler DeMartino and Andrew Walker each collected hits as well. Xavier finished with 12 hits and eight walks.

- Ethan Bosacker went 4.0 innings, also facing three batters in the fifth, in his third start of the year, allowing four earned runs on five hits and three walks, striking out four along the way.
- Dorsey Chatham entered in the fifth inning with no outs and one on, going 2.0 innings with four runs allowed, but just one earned, on two hits and four walks. Dorsey struck out four along the way and picked up the first win of his Xavier career.
- Jonathan Kelly entered in the seventh, going 2.0 innings, without allowing a run and giving up just one hit and walking three. Kelly struck out a pair.
- Jared Gadd entered in the ninth inning, allowing just one base-runner on a walk, and striking out one in a scoreless inning.

4TH INNING | Natale Monastra led off the inning, getting on base after a HBP. With one out and Monastra on, Alex Helmin homered to left field to put Xavier ahead, 2-1. With two outs, Matthew DePrey homered to center field to make it 3-1 Xavier.
5TH INNING | After Cincinnati had take a 7-3 lead in the top of the inning, Tyler DeMartino singled to left center to lead off the inning, then advanced to third on a Jack Housinger double. With one on and two runners in scoring position, Natale Monastra singled to bring DeMartino and Housinger, pulling Xavier within two, 7-5.
6TH INNING | With Xavier trailing 8-5, Alex Helmin led off the inning with a single through the left side, then advanced to second on a ground out from Jared Cushing. With two outs in the inning Andrew Walker hit a single through the left side, sending Alex Helmin home to make it 8-6 in favor of UC.
Walker stole second, Tyler DeMartino took a walk, and then Jack Housinger, after going up 3-0 in the count, was intentionally walked to load the bases. A throwing error on the third baseman allowed Luke Stephenson to reach safely, and sent Walker and DeMartino home, tying the game at 8-8. Natale Monastra singled to left field to bring Housinger home, putting Xavier ahead 9-8, and put Stephenson on third.
A wild pitch sent Monastra to third and allowed Stephenson to score, Xavier 10-8. Another wild pitch sent Monastra to third, and with Garrett Schultz on after a walk, Alex Helmin, in his second at-bat of the inning, hit another single to send Monastra home, capping a six-run inning to put Xavier in front 11-8, with all six scoring with two outs in the inning.
7TH INNING | With Tyler DeMartino on second base after a throwing error on an attempted double-play, Jack Housinger was hit by a pitch and Luke Stephenson walked to load the bases. Natale Monastra homered to left field to clear the bases, putting Xavier ahead 15-11. Jackson Kaplowitz homered in the next at-bat to set the final score at 16-8.
