Musketeers 1-1 in series, play game three later this afternoon

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Xavier baseball fell in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Evansville, 7-4, evening the series at 1-1. Xavier moves to 6-10 on the season.

Xavier took a two run lead in the second, but a five run third put the Purple Aces ahead for good. Each team plated a run in the fourth and Evansville added another in the fifth to go ahead 7-3. Xavier added on more run in the seventh to set the final score at 7-4 in the seven-inning outing. Nick Zwack went 4.0 innings in the start, allowing six runs on seven hits.

Game three of the series is set to be played later this afternoon.

XU AT THE PLATE

Andrew Walker finished 2-3 at the plate with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base.
Jackson Kaplowitz (1-2) finished with two RBI.
Jack Housinger went 2-3 at the plate with a walk in the seventh inning to help load the bases and bring in a run.
Garrett Schultz went 2-4 at the plate.
Tyler DeMartino and Ryan Altenberger each had a hit.
Grant Stephenson and Altenberger each scored a run

XU ON THE MOUND

Nick Zwack went 4.0 innings in the start, allowing six earned runs on seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Zwack picked up the loss.
Dorsey Chatham entered for the fifth inning, going the final 2.0 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits, striking out one while not issuing a walk.

HOW THE SCORED

2ND INNING | Grant Stephenson got aboard after being hit by a pitch then took second on a wild pitch. Andrew Walker hit a triple to center field to send Stephenson home, making it 1-0 Xavier. With one out, Jackson Kaplowitz hit a sac fly to center field to bring Walker in from third base, making it 2-0 Xavier.

4TH INNING | With two outs, Andrew Walker singled through the left sid, then stole second. Jackson Kaplowitz doubled to left center to bring Walker home, making it 5-3 in favor of Evansville.

7TH INNING | Xavier got the first three batters on base with singles for Ryan Altenberger and Garrett Schultz, and a walk for Jack Housinger. Tyler DeMartino grounded out, sending Altenberger home to set the final score at 7-4 Evansville.
