
Xavier Takes BIG EAST Opening Series at St. John's with 18-6 Win on Sunday

Musketeers score 13 runs in final two innings of seven-inning outing to secure win
Xavier scored three runs in the top of the first and the Red Storm responded in the bottom of the second to put the game in tie until the fourth inning. Another three-run frame put Xavier ahead for good, and the Musketeers added another 13 runs combined in the final two innings. SJU added runs in the fifth and the seventh before the final score was set at 18-6.
Xavier moved to 11-14 (2-1 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm dropped to 10-7Â (1-2 BIG EAST). The Musketeers return home next weekend to host Butler for a four-game series at Hayden Field, beginning on Friday, April 16 at 3:00 p.m.

 XU AT THE PLATE |
- Ryan Altenberger went 2-4 at the plate, hitting his third home run of the season. He brought in five RBI, matching his career-high, and scored three runs.
- Natale Monastra went 2-3 at the plate with two walks, scoring three times and collecting an RBI. Monastra extends his team-best hit streak to eight games. Monastra finished the series batting .455 against the Red Storm.
- Alex Helmin went 2-3 at the plate with a walk, scoring three runs. His reached-safely streak extends to seven games. Helmin batted .375 for teh series.
- Luke Stephenson (1-3 with a walk) hit a two-run homer in the first inning, his second of the year. Stephenson finished with three runs scored, and two RBI, and extended his team-best on-base streak to 11 games.
- Andrew Walker went 1-3 with a walk and brought in two RBI and scored a pair, Walker, who batted .364 for the series) extends his hitting streak to six games.
- Jack Housinger reached safely for an eighth-straight game, getting on with a walk. Housinger finished with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Grant Stephenson (1-4) and Garrett Schultz (1-2) each finished with two RBI and a run scored.

- Trevor Olson went 2.1 innings in the start, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk, striking out a pair.
- Dorsey Chatham entered for the final two outs of the third inning. Chatham went 1.1 innings, not allowing a run or a hit, walking three and striking out one. Chatham picked up the win.
- Michael Dillon entered to pick up the final out of the fourth inning, getting out of a bases-loaded jam to get out of the inning. Dillon went 2.0 innings allowing one run on one hit with four walks and three strikeouts.
- Jonathan Kelly entered for the final out of the sixth, striking out the lone batter he faced to get out of a bases-loaded jam. Kelly pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on one hit and two walks, striking out a pair.

1ST INNING | With two outs, Ryan Altenberger reached on an error, advancing to third. Natale Monastra singled through the left side to bring Altenberger home, putting Xavier ahead, 1-0. Luke Stephenson hit a two-run homer to center field to make it 3-0 Xavier.
4TH INNING | Alex Helmin led off the inning with a single, then advanced to second on a sacrfice bunt from Garrett Schultz. Luke Franzoni Walk and Grant Stephenson was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out for Andrew Walker. Walker singled through the left side to bring in two runs, 5-3Â Xavier. After a balk moved Walker to second and Stephenson to third, Jack Housinger hit a sac fly to left field to bring in Stephenson, 6-3 Xavier.
6TH INNING | With one out in the inning, Andrew Walker was hit by a pitch then took second on a wild pitch and Jack Housinger walked to put two on for Ryan Altenberger. Altenberger doubled to left, scoring two runs, 8-4 Xavier, took third on the throw, then came home on a wild pitch, 9-4 Xavier. Natale Monastra, Luke Stephenson and Alex Helmin each walked to load the bases with one out, and Garrett Schultz singled to the pitcher to bring in Monastra, 10-4 Xavier. A sac fly with the bases loaded for Luke Franzoni brought in the final run of the five-run inning, 11-4 Xavier.
6TH INNING | Andrew Walker walked to lead off the inning and then Jack Housinger reached on a fielder's choice, with Walker taking second on an error. Ryan Altenberger homered with two runners on to put Xavier ahead 14-4.Â
Natale Monastra walked and Luke Stephenson and Alex Helmin were both hit by pitch to load the bases with no outs. Garrett Schultz walked to bring in Monastra, 15-4 Xavier. With one out and the bases loaded, Grant Stephenson singled through the right side to bring in Helmin and Stephenson, 17-4 Xavier. Garrett Schultz then came home on a wild pitch, 18-4 Xavier.
