
Musketeers Split Friday Doubleheader with Flyers

Trevor Olson strikes out a career-best 9 in game one; Nick Zwack goes the full 7.0 innings in game two win
CINCINNATIÂ -Â Xavier baseball split a pair of seven-inning outings on Friday at Hayden Field, falling 4-1 in game one, then bouncing back to even the series with a 5-1 win in game two. The series continues with another doubleheader set to begin on Saturday at noon.
Trevor Olson got the start in game one, striking out a career-high nine in 4.2 innings of work but the Flyers took a one run lead in the third and pushed it to a 4-0 advantage with a three run homer in the fifth. Xavier got a run back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI by Andrew Walker brining in Garrett Schultz, but were unable to pull any closer.
In game two, Nick Zwack made the start on the mound, going the full 7.0 innings, allowing just one run on seven hits, striking out eight without a walk. Xavier scored three in the first inning and added two more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead into the fifth where the Flyers got a run back but were unable to get any closer, evening the series at 1-1 with a 5-1 Xavier win.
Xavier moved to 7-13 on the season while Dayton moved to 10-16

5TH INNING | Garrett Schultz led off the inning with a bunt single, then advanced to second a single from Jonathan Kelly. Both runners advanced into scoring position on a passed ball and with one out, Andrew Walker hit a ground ball to the short stop to bring Schultz home, making it 4-1 Dayton.

1ST INNING | Andrew Walker hit the first pitch of the game over the left field fence, giving Xavier a 1-0 lead. With one out, Ryan Altenberger hit a triple to center field, then came home on wild pitch to make it 2-0 Xavier. Lane Flamm and Garrett Schultz each took a base on balls to give Xavier two on with one out. After Grant Stephenson hit a ground ball to the short stop, reaching on a fielders choice with Schultz out at second, the Musketeers had runners on the corners with two outs. A balk from the UD pitcher sent Flamm home to make it 3-0 Xavier.
4TH INNING | Jared Cushing took a two-out walk then took second on a wild pitch. Andrew Walker hit a double down the left field line to bring Cushing home, making it 4-0 Xavier. Jack Housinger hit a single to put Walker on third and then Ryan Altenberger hit a single up the middle to bring Walker home, making 5-0 Xavier.
