
Zwack, Schramm Pitch Combined Shutout in Win at Villanova

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - A combined three-hit shutout from Nick Zwack and Trey Schramm helped Xavier to a 1-0 win at Villanova on Saturday, evening the series at 1-1. The rubber match with the Wildcats is set for Sunday at noon.
Xavier took a one-run lead in the fourth on a run from Alex Helmin after using a lead-off single to get on, eventually coming around to steal home. The run was the only one the Musketeers would need as Xavier's pitchers combined to hold Villanova scoreless, with only three hits allowed and just eight Wildcats getting aboard for the entire game, taking the 1-0 win.
Xavier moved to 17-18 overall and 8-5 in BIG EAST play, while Villanova moved to 14-11 overall and 2-9Â in BIG EAST play.

Tyler DeMartino reached on a fielder's choice, putting Helmin on third with Stephenson out at second. With Jonathan Kelly at-bat, Tyler DeMartino stole second and Helmin stole home to put Xavier ahead, 1-0.

- Luke Stephenson went 2-4, including a fourth-inning single to help move Helmin into scoring position. Stephenson extends his hitting streak to six games and his reached-safely streak to seven.
- Natale Monastra went 2-4 at the plate with a pair of singles in the sixth and eighth innings.
- Andrew Walker got on-base twice with a double and a walk.

- Nick Zwack made the start, going 6.1 innings without allowing a run, giving up just two hits after not allowing a hit until the fifth inning. Zwack walked three and struck out seven, picking up his team-high fifth win of the season.
- Trey Schramm entered for the final two outs of the seventh with two runners on. Schramm went 2.2 innings without allowing a run and gave up just one hit with two walks and three strikeouts. Schramm picked up the save, his third of the season and 12th as a Musketeer, moving him into sole-possession of sixth place in Xavier's record books for career saves.
- Schramm's appearance was his 95th as a Musketeer, third most in program history, putting him three appearances away from moving into a tie for second most career appearances in Xavier history.
