Musketeers and Hoyas wrap up series with doubleheader on Sunday

CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball fell 5-1 to the Georgetown Hoyas in game three of the series at Hayden Field on Saturday afternoon. Xavier leads the series 2-1 with two games remaining.

They Hoyas took the lead in the second inning, then built it to a 5-0 lead with runs in each of the next three innings. After getting runners aboard without bringing them around in each of the previous five innings, the Musketeers broke through for a run in the seventh, but were unable to bring in another, setting the final score at 5-1.

Xavier celebrated its nine seniors and graduate students, Ryan Altenberger, Sam Czabala, Griffin Lanoue, Natale Monastra, Sam Olson, Trevor Olson, Trey Schramm, Andrew Sexton and Nick Zwack prior to the game.

The Musketeers moved to 21-22 on the year and 12-9 in BIG EAST play while Georgetown moved to 5-19 overall and 5-14 in BIG EAST play. The series wraps up on Sunday with a doubleheader set to begin at noon. Game two of Sunday's doubleheader will be a non-conference match-up.

XU AT THE PLATE

Sam Olson went 1-2 with a walk, scoring the Musketeers' lone run after leading off the seventh inning with a single. Olson has reached base in each of the last four games.
Andrew Walker (1-4 with a walk) had a seventh inning single to help load the bases and eventually bring in a run.
Tyler DeMartino (1-2), Natale Monastra (1-3, 1 BB) and Garrett Schultz (1-3) each recorded a hit.
Jack Housinger had a pair of walks on the day, extending his reached-safely streak to six games, matching for the current team high.
Luke Franzoni extending his on-base streak to six games with a walk. Jackson Kaplowitz also reached on a walk, getting on base for a third-straight game.

XU ON THE MOUND

Lane Flamm went 3.2 innings in the start, allowing four runs, with just two earned, on five hits and two walks, striking out a pair. Flamm moved to 2-5 on the season with the loss.
Jared Gadd entered for the final out of the fourth inning, going a career-long 3.1 innings with one run allowed on five hits with no walks.
Luke Bell entered in the eighth inning, pitching the final 2.0 innings without allowing a run and only giving up one hit and a walk.

SCORING RECAP

7TH INNING | Xavier loaded the bases with no outs after singles from Sam Olson and Andrew Walker, followed by a walk by Jack Housinger. Alex Helmin hit into a double play, allowing Olson to score from third to set the score at 5-1 in favor of the Hoyas.
