
Musketeers Sweep Sunday Doubleheader Against the Hoyas for 4-1 Series Win

Xavier takes the 10-0 run-rule win in game one, wins in a walk-off in game two
CINCINNATIÂ -Â Xavier baseball swept the Sunday doubleheader against Georgetown to close out the home schedule and the series with the Hoyas, taking a 4-1 advantage in the five games against GU. Xavier took a 10-0 win in seven innings on a run-rule in the first game of the day, then came back to win in walk-off fashion in the eighth inning of the second game, 2-1, which was a non-conference match-up.
The Musketeers took the 2-0 lead in the first inning and added a run in the third to take a 3-0 lead into the fifth. A five-run inning for the Musketeers broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth, and Xavier added runs in the sixth and the seventh to invoke the 10-run rule, taking the 10-0 win in seven innings. Trey Schramm went 4.0 innings in the start, picking up the win and Jack Lynch earned the save after going the final 3.0 innings in the combined shutout.
In game two, the Hoyas took the one-run lead in the second and held it until the sixth when a bases-loaded walk from Jonathan Kelly brought in the tying run. In what was originally scheduled to be a seven-inning game, the teams went into the bottom of the eighth tied, 1-1, where the Musketeers got the winning run across on a sac fly from Eddie Rivero with the bases loaded.
Xavier moved to 23-22 overall and 13-9 in BIG EAST play, with only game one from Sunday counting in the conference standings. Georgetown moved to 5-21 overall and 5-16 in BIG EAST play.
The Musketeers remain in the top four of the BIG EAST standings with one series remaining, next weekend at Creighton. The top four teams in the league earn a bid to the BIG EAST Championship, to be played at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio from May 24-30.

1ST INNING | Luke Franzoni led off with a single and Jack Housinger followed with a walk. Both advanced on a ground ball from Natale Monastra to put two runners in scoring position with two outs for Garrett Schultz. Schultz singled up the middle to bring both runners in to put Xavier ahead, 2-0.
3RD INNING | With one out, Natale Monastra hit a solo shot down the left field line to put Xavier ahead, 3-0.Â
5TH INNING | Natale Monastra singled to lead off the inning and Tyler DeMartino singled with two outs to put two on for Jeff Holtz. who hit a three-run homer to left field, putting Xavier ahead, 6-0. Sam Olson singled and stole second, then Luke Franzoni hit a double down the left field line to bring Olson in, putting Xavier ahead, 7-0. Jack Housinger hit a single through the right side to bring in Franzoni, putting Xavier ahead 8-0.
6TH INNING | Natale Monastra hit a double to lead off the inning, moved to third on a fly ball from Garrett Schultz and with Alex Helmin in the batter's box, came home on a wild pitch to put Xavier ahead, 9-0.
7TH INNING | Sam Olson hit a single to lead off the inning, and moved to second on a throwing error. With one out, a Jack Housinger fly ball allowed Olson to move to third, and a single from Andrew Walker brought Olson home, putting Xavier up 10-0 and ending the game with the run-rule.

6TH INNING | Andrew Sexton hit a one-out double to center field, then moved to third on a wild pitch. Jeff Holtz and Luke Stephenson took back-to-back walks to load the bases with two outs, and Jonathan Kelly took a four-pitch walk to bring in Sexton and tie the game 1-1.
8TH INNING | With Jack Krumbach placed on second to begin the inning, a rule in place for extra innings, Garrett Schultz reached on a fielder's choice, with Krumbach being safe at third. Luke Stephenson was intentionally walked to load the bases and with one out, Eddie Rivero hit a sac fly to deep center, allowing Krumbach to score from third to end the game in a walk-off, 2-1.
