Musketeers return home for eight-game home stand, starting with Seton Hall next weekend

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - After taking a lead into the fifth inning, eight runs late for Villanova gave Xavier baseball a 12-5 loss in the series finale against the Wildcats. VU took two of three for the weekend, the first BIG EAST series loss for the Musketeers.

Xavier scored a pair of runs in the top of the first and added runs in the second, third and fifth innings to take a 5-2 lead. A three-run fifth inning for Villanova tied the game at 5-5, and the Wildcats added two more in the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. The Wildcats added five more runs in the eighth to set the final score at 12-5.

Xavier moved to 17-19 overall and 8-6 in BIG EAST play, while Villanova moved to 15-11 overall and 3-9 in BIG EAST play. The Musketeers return home next weekend to host Seton Hall for a four-game series running from Friday, May 7 through Sunday, May 9.

SCORING RECAP

1ST INNING | Andrew Walker singled the center field to lead off the game, then game around to score on a Jack Housinger double to put Xavier up 1-0. Housinger stole third, then scored on a sac fly from Natale Monastra to put Xavier up 2-0.

2ND INNING | Garrett Schultz homered to left field to lead off the inning to give Xavier a 3-1 lead.

3RD INNING | Natale Monastra singled to left field, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Garrett Schultz tripled to left to bring in Monastra, putting Xavier up 4-2.

5TH INNING | Jackson Kaplowitz singled to lead off the inning, moved to second on a passed ball, then moved to third after Garrett Schultz put the ball into play. Jeff Holtz doubled to left field to bring in Kaplowitz, putting Xavier ahead 5-2.

XU AT THE PLATE

Garrett Schultz had two hits (2-4), both for extra bases, collecting two RBI and scoring a run. Schultz hit his fourth homer of the season in the second and brought in a run with a triple in the third inning.
Andrew Walker went 3-5 at the plate, including a double, scoring a run.
Jack Housinger (1-3) added to his team high in doubles (12) picking up an RBI in the first inning. Housinger also had a pair of walks, bringing his team-high total to 23.
Natale Monastra went 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored, and walked twice.
Jeff Holtz (1-4) picked up an RBI in the fifth inning on a double.
Jackson Kaplowitz (1-2) came around to score a run after hitting a single to lead off the inning.
Alex Helmin (1-5) also had a hit for the day.

XU ON THE MOUND

Lane Flamm went 4.2 innings in the start, allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits. Flamm struck out seven while walking three.
Ethan Bosacker entered for the final out of the fifth, going 1.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk.
After a lead off walk, Jack Lynch entered in the seventh, going 1.0 inning, allowing one run on one hit.
After a lead-off single in the eighth, Jonathan Kelly entered, going 0.1 innings, allowing three runs on two hits and a walk, striking out one.
Sam Czabala entered with one out in the eighth, facing three batters, allowing one run on two hits and walk.
Jared Gadd pitched the final 0.2 innings to close out the eighth, not allowing a run or a hit.
