Ahmeir Kyle Opens Up NCAA Singles Championships Action on Sunday

Kyle faces No. 60 Paris Corley from LSU in first round, set for 2 PM
ORLANDO - Xavier senior Ahmeir Kyle opens up NCAA Singles Championship play against No. 60 Paris Corley on Sunday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. Matches for the Singles Championship will be live stream through the TennisONE app. Â
The winner of the opening match will advance to play the winner of the match between Alexa Noel of Iowa and Alana Smith of NC State on Monday, May 24.
Kyle earned a spot in the NCAA Championships Singles bracket, a first for the Xavier program, after earning the automatic bid award to the highest ranked player from the BIG EAST. This season, Kyle was the first Musketeer to be ranked in the ITA National Rankings for multiple weeks, reaching as high as No. 107 in the national rankings. She came in at No. 121 in the most recent rankings.
Kyle, a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team, is 10-4 in singles play this season all at the No. 1 position. Among the singles wins for Kyle were a pair of wins over ranked opponents from Louisville and Memphis in back-to-back matches during the regular season.
Kyle's opponent, Paris Corley, is a senior from LSU who is 19-4 overall in singles play on the season, going 11-3 in dual action, playing primarily in the No. 3 spot for an LSU team that went 15-6 overall and 9-4 in SEC play. Corley also went 8-1 in tournament action in the fall.
Corley enters the Championships on a five-match win streak, picking up wins in the No. 3 spot against then ranked-No. 20 Auburn, No. 28 Arkansas, Mizzou, No. 17 Tennessee, as well as No. 20 Michigan in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.Â
