
Xavier Baseball Finishes Runners-Up in 2021 BIG EAST Tournament

Ethan Bosacker, Natale Monastra, Trevor Olson and Andrew Walker named to the All-Tournament Team
The Musketeers took a one-run lead in the third but a five-run fourth inning for the Huskies put UConn in front, 5-1. The Huskies added two in the fifth to take a 7-1 lead, but Xavier responded with a pair of runs in the next frame to cut it to 7-3. A three-run frame in the seventh to take a 10-3 lead which held into the top of the ninth.
In the ninth, a triple from Franzoni turned into a run, and a two-run homer from Natale Monastra made it a 10-6 game before the Huskies picked up the final out to seal the win.
It's the Musketeers' second-straight runners-up finish in the BIG EAST Tournament, also falling in the Championship series in 2019. Xavier has made the Championship series in each of the Musketeers' five trips to the BIG EAST Tournament, winning the title in 2014, 2016 and 2017.
Four Musketeers earned All-Tournament team honors, starting pitchers Ethan Bosacker and Trevor Olson, as well as catcher Natale Monastra and outfielder Andrew Walker.
Ethan Bosacker started Saturday's 2-1 win over Creighton, going 7.0 innings with only one run allowed on five hits. Bosacker struck out six without walking batter and picked up the win, his fourth of the season.
Trevor Olson made the start in game on against UConn on Sunday, going 6.2 innings in the eventual 5-4 win, allowing just one run on seven hits, striking out five and walking two. Olson picked up the win, his fifth of the season.
Natale Monastra started all five games at catcher, collecting four hits at the plate, including three for extra bases. Among those extra-base hits were a solo home run, to help Xavier put together a five-run seventh inning in the win over UConn, and a two-run shot in the ninth inning of the final game, to pull the Musketeers within four.
Andrew Walker started in all five games in left field and batted .353 (6-17)Â including a two-run homer to put Xavier ahead in the win over UConn. Walker finished with three RBI and two runs scored.

3RD INNING |Â Luke Franzoni walked to lead off the inning, Jack Housinger was hit by a pitch and Andrew Walker walked to load the bases for Natale Monastra with no outs. Monastra put the ball in play to bring in Franzoni, putting Xavier ahead, 1-0.
6TH INNING |Â Tyler DeMartino hit a one-out double to left center, followed by an Alex Helmin walk to put two on for Garrett Schultz who doubled to right center, bringing in two runs to cut the UConn lead to 7-3.
9TH INNING |Â Luke Franzoni hit a one-out triple, then came home on ground ball from Jack Housinger to make it 10-4. Andrew Walker walked with two outs and Natale Monastra homered to left field to bring in two runs, setting the score at 10-6 UConn.

- Tyler DeMartino went 3-5 with a double, to extend his hitting streak to five games, aand came around to score a run.
- Natale Monastra (1-5) picked up two RBI on a ninth inning homer.
- Jack Housinger picked up an RBI in the ninth inning, driving in Luke Franzoni. He was hit by a pitch to extend his on-base to 16 games.
- Luke Franzoni (1-4, 1 BB) came around to score both times he got on base. His reached safely streak extended to 16 games.
- Andrew Walker took three walks and came around to score a run on Monastra's ninth inning home run.
- Alex Helmin finished with a pair of walks and a run scored.

- Luke Bell went 3.0 innings in his first start as a Musketeer, not allowing a run. Bell allowed three hits and gave up three runs while striking out one.
- Jack Lynch entered for the fourth, going 0.1 inning, allowing three runs on one hit and two runs with one strikeout.
- Dorsey Chatham entered with one out in the fourth, going 1.0 inning, allowing four runs on seven hits and walk.
- Jared Gadd entered with one out in the sixth, going 1.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk.
