Baseball Splits Series-Opening Doubleheader with Seton Hall

Series continues with another doubleheader set to begin Saturday at noon
CINCINNATIÂ -Â Xavier baseball split the series-opening doubleheader with Seton Hall, falling in game one to the Pirates, 4-1, in seven innings, then taking the 6-1 win in the nine-inning second game.
In game one, SHU took a one-run lead in the top of the first, but the Musketeers pulled even in the second inning, sending the game to the fourth inning in a tied. A three-run frame for the Pirates in the fourth put SHU ahead, 4-1, which held through the rest of the seven inning game.
In game two, the game remained scoreless until a two-run homer for the Musketeers in the fourth inning. SHU responded with a run in the fifth but Xavier held on to the 2-1 lead, and added four runs in the eighth to take the 6-1 win.
Xavier moved to 18-20 overall and 9-7 in BIG EAST play, while Seton Hall moved to 20-16Â overall and 13-4 in conference play.The series continues with another doubleheader, set to begin at noon on Saturday.

2ND INNING | Natale Monastra walked to lead off the inning and Garrett Schultz singled to send Monastra to second, and Monastra took third on a fielding error. Luke Franzoni hit a sac fly with one out to bring Monastra in, tying the game at 1-1.

4TH INNING | After Garrett Schultz reached on an error, Luke Franzoni hit a homer to left field to bring in two runs, putting Xavier ahead, 2-0.
8TH INNING | Alex Helmin and Natale Monastra were hit by pitches to lead off the inning, and Luke Stephenson took a one-out walk to load the bases. With two outs, Jared Cushing was also hit by a pitch to bring in a Alex Helmin, putting Xavier ahead 3-1. With two outs and the bases loaded, Sam Olson walked to bring in a run, 4-1 Xavier. Andrew Walker hit a bases-loaded double to bring in two more runs, setting the score at 6-1 Xavier.

- Luke Franzoni collected three RBI on the day, bringing in a run on sac fly in game one, and hitting a two-run homer in the second. Franzoni now matches Luke Stephenson for team-high in home runs at six.
- Andrew Walker finished with two hits, including a two-RBI double In the second game.
- Sam Olson also brought in an RBI on a walk, one of three he took on the day. Olson also collected a hit in game two,
- Jared Cushing picked up an RBI after he was hit by a pitch in game two.
- Luke Stephenson each finished the day with a hit and a run scored.

- Nick Zwack went 6.0 inning in the start in game one, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and three walks, striking out three. Zwack moved to 5-4 on the season with the loss.
- Dorsey Chatham pitched the final 1.0 inning of game one, not allowing a run and giving up only one hit while striking out two.
- Ethan Bosacker went 7.0 innings in the start, matching his career-long, allowing just one earned run on five hits and two walks, striking out three. Bosacker picked up his second win of the season to move to 2-3.
- Jack Lynch entered for the eighth inning, going the final 2.0 innings of game two. Lynch held the Pirates scoreless, giving up only one hit and one walk while striking out three. Lynch picked up his first save as a Musketeer.
