Women's Soccer Opens Season with 1-0 Win at No. 21 Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS -  Xavier women's soccer opened up the season with a top-25 win, topping No. 21 Saint Louis, 1-0, after Sonia Vargas scored from Emma Marcus in the closing minutes at Hermann Stadium on Thursday evening.
The teams went in to the break in a scoreless draw, with Xavier leading 8-4 on shots, including 3-1 advantage on looks on-frame. Chloe Netzel had a pair of first half looks on frame in her debut as a Musketeer. Ella Rogers also recorded a pair of shots in her first half of action for Xavier.
In the second half, the Musketeers held a 10-2 advantage on shots, including five shots on frame, but the 0-0 tie held into the 85th minute when Dana Dahm used a header to clear a Saint Louis corner kick, sending the ball down field for Emma Marcus, who drove past the Saint Louis defense, finiding Sonia Vargas who finished from the top of the box fox the game-winner.
The Musketeers open up the home portion of the schedule next, hosting Northwestern on Sunday, August 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Corcoran Field. The game will be available for live stream through the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
