Musketeers Drop BIG EAST Opener vs St. John's

The Red Storm topped Xavier, 1-0, on Saturday night
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's soccer dropped its BIG EAST opener vs St. John's, 1-0, on Saturday night at Corcoran Field.
The Musketeers moved to 6-2 (0-1 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Red Storm improved to 5-2 (1-0 BIG EAST).

• The loss snapped Xavier's three-match streak without allowing a goal. The Musketeers didn't allow a goal for nearly 100 minutes (99:31) before the Red Storm goal in the 71st minute ended the streak.
• Xavier moved to 3-4-2 in the all-time series with St. John's including a 2-1-1 mark when playing at Corcoran Field. The Musketeers also dropped to 5-4 in BIG EAST openers.
• St. John's held a 13-4 advantage in shots and took two more shots on goal (5-3). The Red Storm also took six more corner kicks (6-0) and committed three more fouls (8-5).
• Justus Kauppinen led Xavier with two shots, while Jerome Jolly and Pol Hernandez each added one.
• Matthew Rosenberg (6-2) took the loss in goal. The senior goalkeeper made four saves on the night.
• Three Musketeers played all 90 minutes: Matthew Rosenberg, Taylor Crull and Cameron Belle.
• The Musketeers travel to Providence on Saturday, Sept. 25. First touch is set for 1 p.m. from Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
