Women's Soccer Moves to 5-0 With 2-1 Win at Illinois

Goals from Ella Rogers and Chloe Netzel help Musketeers match best start since 1997
CHAMPAIGN, ILL. -Â Â Xavier women's soccer continued its winning streak to start the season, picking up a 2-1 win on the road at Illinois to move to 5-0. The start matches the 1997 season as the second-best start in program history, second only to the 1990 team's 8-0 start.
Xavier took the lead early in the first half on a tally from Ella Rogers from Emma Marcus, and the Musketeers held the lead into the break. Xavier held a 7-6 lead on shots in the first half, and had a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks in the first 45 minutes.
Shortly after halftime, the Illini responded to tie it up, knocking in a saved ball to make it 1-1 in the 50th minute, but the Musketeers responded immediately, with Chloe Netzel scoring less than a minute later to put Xavier back in front, 2-1. Illinois held a 12-9 advantage on shots in the second half, but only had three looks on-frame, and were unable to find another equalizer in the final 40 minutes to set the final score at 2-1 in favor of the Musketeers.
Xavier returns to Corcoran Field for the first of three-straight home matches, hosting Tennessee Tech on Sunday, September 5 at 1:00 p.m. The match will be available to live stream through FloSports.

12' | XAVIERÂ | Emma Marcus got the ball on the right side of the field in the Musketeers' attacking third, finding Ella Rogers just outside the penalty box. Rogers shot from about 20 yard out, straight on, sneaking the ball in the upper left corner of the net for the 1-0 Xavier lead.
50' | ILLINOISÂ | UI's Makena Silber found the ball in front of the net off the rebound of an Olivia Jenkins save, knocking it back in to tie the game at 1-1.
51' | XAVIER | Less than a minute after the Illini's equalizer, Hayley Jakovich served the ball from around midfield into Xavier's attacking third to Chloe Netzel who brought the ball into the box and shot to the near post to put the Musketeers back in front, 2-1.
