Musketeers moved to 5-0 with win over Illinois on Thursday
CINCINNATI - No. 23 Xavier women's soccer (5-0) returns to Corcoran Field for the first of back-to-back home matches, hosting Ball State on Thursday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. The match will be available to live stream through FloSports.
Following the match with the Cardinals, Xavier hosts Loyola - Chicago on Sunday, Sept.12 at 1:00 p.m., as part of a doubleheader with Xavier's men, who host Northwestern at 6:00 p.m.

- BSU enters the game at 2-2, picking up a season-opening win over Valpo (3-1), and taking the 3-1 win over Purdue Fort Wayne last Sunday. The Cardinals fell to Purdue, 5-1, and Cincinnati 2-1.
- Nicky Potts and Chelcy Ralph each have a pair of goals, and four other Cardinals have tallies so far this season.
- Alex DeRuvo has made all four starts in-frame, collecting 11 saves with nine goals against.

- Xavier women's soccer continued its winning streak to start the season, picking up a 2-1 win on the road at Illinois to move to 5-0. The start matches the 1997 season as the second-best start in program history, second only to the 1990 team's 8-0 start.
- Xavier took the lead early in the first half on a tally from Ella Rogers from Emma Marcus, and the Musketeers held the lead into the break. Xavier held a 7-6 lead on shots in the first half, and had a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks in the first 45 minutes.
- Shortly after halftime, the Illini responded to tie it up, knocking in a saved ball to make it 1-1 in the 50th minute, but the Musketeers responded immediately, with Chloe Netzel scoring less than a minute later to put Xavier back in front, 2-1. Illinois held a 12-9 advantage on shots in the second half, but only had three looks on-frame, and were unable to find another equalizer in the final 40 minutes to set the final score at 2-1 in favor of the Musketeers.
- Ella Rogers'Â goal in the 12th minute was her first collegiate tally. She's the sixth Musketeer, and the fourth freshman, to score this season.
- Chloe Netzel's second half goal was her second tally of the season, matching Mathilde Rasmussen for team-high. It was also her second game-winner of the season.
- Emma Marcus picked up the assist on Rogers' goal, her second of the season.
- Hayley Jakovich picked up an assist on Netzel's game-winner, her second of the season.
- After Xavier held a 7-6 advantage on shots in the first half, the Illini out-shot Xavier 12-9 in the second. The Musketeers had a 10-4 advantage on shots on-goal.
- Xavier held a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.
- Ella Rogers' four shots led the Musketeers and Molly McLaughlin and Emma Marcus each had three shots total with two on-frame.
- Molly McLaughlin and Ella Rogers both played the full time in the midfield while Grace Brauer and Hayley Jakovich played the full 90 minutes on the Xavier backline.
- Olivia Jenkins played the full time in-goal, collecting two saves with one goal against, moving to 5-0 on the season.

- Olivia Jenkins has made all five starts in frame, playing the full time in all five matches. She's collected 13 saves with three goals against for a GAA of 0.60 and has a record of 5-0-0 with two complete shutouts.

- The Musketeers made their first appearance in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll in week three (9/7/21), entering the rankings at No. 23, marking the first time the Musketeers have been ranked in the USC National Poll since finishing the 2019 season at No. 24. The Musketeers had been receiving votes in each of the two previous weeks.
- Xavier also moved up to the No. 1 spot in the East region in week three, after being at No. 3 in the region for week two.

- Xavier remains home for a final match of the non-conference schedule on Sunday, Sept. 12, hosting Loyola Chicago at 1:00 p.m.Â
- The match with the Ramblers is part of a doubleheader with Xavier's men, who host Northwestern at 6:00 p.m.
- Loyola is 3-1-1, headed into a Thursday match-up with DePaul. The Ramblers went 3-0 to open the season with wins against Miami (Ohio), SIUE and Florida Atlantic before playing Wisconsin to a scoreless draw in double overtime and falling to Nebraska last weekend.
- Loyola finished last season at 8-2-1 overall and 6-1-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play. The Ramblers won the MVC tournament to pick up a bid to the NCAA Championship, where the season ended with a 3-1 loss to Denver.
- Sophomore Megan Nemec led Loyola with 15 point on three goals and a team-high nine assists, earning MVC Player of the Year honors.
- Junior Abby Swanson was tabbed the MVC Defensive Player of the Year.Â
- Junior Aly Kilburg was also an All-MVC First Team selection.
- Alaina Abel earned MVC Freshman of the Year honors playing on the Ramblers backline.
- Senior Lindsey Hardiman had a team-best five goals, earning All-MVC Second Team honors.
- Senior Katharine Stephens was named Honorable Mention MVC while the coaching staff picked up a third-straight conference honor.Â
- Sophomore Grace Droessler played over 600 minutes in goal, allowing just seven goals against for a GAA of 1.01 and finishing with a 5-1-0 record.
- Xavier is 4-3-1 all time against the Ramblers with the last match-up happening in 2008.

 SPRING 2021 SEASON |
- Xavier finished spring 2021 at 3-6 overall and 2-4 in BIG EAST play, picking up wins over Bellarmine in the non-conference portion of the schedule, and BIG EAST wins over Creighton and DePaul, all three coming on the road.
- Following the spring season, two Musketeers earned all conference honors, All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree, senior midfielder Molly McLaughlin, and All-Freshman Team member, forward Sonia Vargas.
- McLaughlin led the Musketeers with four points on two goals, while sophomore Grace Blumfeldt finished her rookie season with three point on a goal and an assist.
- After finishing fourth in the Midwest Division, the Musketeers missed the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time in Nate Lie's tenure as head coach.

- The Musketeers return 26 letter-winners from the spring, including All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree, senior midfielder Molly McLaughlin, and All-Freshman Team member, forward Sonia Vargas.
- Xavier's returners account for over 70 percent of the goals scored last season, led by McLaughlin's pair of tallies.
- The Musketeers added and 11-person freshman class for the fall after losing 11 letterwinners from spring 2021.
- Xavier was picked seventh in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, collecting 45 points. Georgetown was picked to win the conference.
- Ahead of the start of the 2021 season, head coach Nate Lie announced additions to his staff. Katy Etelman joins Xavier as an assistant coach, while Tyler Smaha, who served as Xavier's Director of Player Development last season, also moves into the role of assistant coach. Jacob Morrison joins Xavier as the Director of Goalkeeping and Kaitlyn Jones joins Lie's staff as Director of Player Analysis/Operations.
