Xavier Completes Reverse Sweep of Providence, Starts 1-0 in the BIG EAST

Carrigan O'Reilly posts a triple-double to lead the comeback effort
CINCINNATI, OH - In what will surely go down as one of the most exciting matches of the season, Xavier pulled off the reverse sweep in Cintas Center. The Musketeers came out with the win in five sets by a score of 19-25, 18-25, 28-26, 25-21, 16-14, to start 1-0 in the BIG EAST.
With back-to-back wins, Xavier is over .500 again with a 6-5 record as they get ready to welcome No. 16 Creighton on Saturday. Providence falls to 12-2.
• Junior Carrigan O'Reilly had a career night, notching a triple-double with a career-high 12 kills to go with 42 assists and a season-high 11 digs. She also recorded an ace and four blocks on the evening.
• Emma Grace, in just her second collegiate start, led Xavier with 17 kills and 25 digs, both career highs. This marks her first double-double after recording 10 kills and nine digs in her first start. She also had three aces for the second-straight match, three assists, and two blocks (one solo).
• Sophomore Delaney Hogan posted double-digit kills as well, scoring 10 without an error and a team-high .385 hit percentage. She also added three blocks (one solo).
• Senior Ellie Chaffee led the way at the net, blocking seven Friar attacks to help Xavier to 11 team blocks, the most since their match against SIUE on September 3.
• Hayley Heitmeyer reached new heights, accruing career-highs in kills (four), blocks (two) and points (five).
• Down two sets to zero and facing match point at 23-24, Norah Painter put down a kill deep in the back row to keep Xavier alive. An ace by freshman Lucia Corsaro would later seal the third set for the Musketeers 28-26, and the comeback was on. Xavier won a close fourth set and in the deciding fifth, took an extra point (16-14) to cement the reverse sweep.
