QUEENS, N.Y. - No. 22 Xavier women's soccer remained unbeaten in BIG EAST and extended its shutout streak to five matches after playing St. John's to a 0-0 draw at Belson Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Musketeers moved to 11-2-3 overall and 5-0-2 in conference action.
Xavier held an early advantage on offense, taking a 6-2 advantage on shots into the final minute of the first half, with three shots each coming from Molly McLaughlin and Ella Rogers. In the final minutes of the half, St. John's created a flurry of chances following a corner kick, including a look on-frame, but Maria Galley's third save of the half sent the game to the break in a scoreless draw. Xavier held the 6-4 advantage on shots, but the Red Storm took a 3-2 advantage on shots on-goal into the break.
The defensive pressure for both teams turned up in the second half, with each team only allowing one shot in the final 45 minutes. The Musketeers earned a 3-0 advantage on corner kicks and had the only look on-frame after the half, but neither team found the back of the net to finish the match in a 0-0 draw. The shutout is the fifth-straight for the Musketeers.
Next up, the Musketeers have a pair of home matches starting with Providence on Thursday, October 20, set for a 7:00 p.m. start on the BEDN.
