Swimming Heads to Akron Zips Classic this Weekend

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming will be back in action this weekend, traveling to Akron to take part in the Akron Zips Classic. The event begins on Friday, October 7 and runs through Saturday, October 8 at Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.

- Last season, the two-day meet included Akron and Denison in addition to the Zips and the Musketeers.
- At last season's meet, Xavier collected a pair of third-place finishes with 535.5 points on the women's side and 805 on the men's side.

 LAST TIME OUT - MEN |
- Xavier's men opened the meet with a time of 1:32.59 for Jon Bernard, Ethan Saunders, Aiden Leamer and Gage Hannewyk in the 200 medley relay, finishing third.
- Adam Lamping led Xavier in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:05.78.
- Andrew Martin set a time of 1:41.13 in the 200 free to lead Xavier. Martin also led the Musketeers in the 500 free with a time of 4:32.69, scoring in second place.
- Jon Bernard won a pair of events, taking the 100 back with a time of 51.26 and the 200 back with a time of 1:51.26. Bernard also led Xavier in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.68, placing second
- Ethan Saunders led the Musketeers with a third place finish in the 100 breast, finishing in 58.60.
- Aiden Leamer led Xavier in the butterfly events, setting a time of 50.08 in the 100 fly, scoring in second, and with a time of 1:51.73 in the 200 fly.
- Kyle Hudson led the Musketeers in the freestyle sprints, setting a time of 21.58 in the 50 free and 47.03 in the 100 free.
- Nathan Wall placed second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:07.31.
- Kyle Hudson, Gage Hannewyk, Ethan Wing and Andrew Martin closed out the meet with a time of 3:05.99 in the 400 free relay, scoring in second place.
- The Musketeers collected 89 points, falling by a score of 169-89.

 LAST TIME OUT - WOMEN |
- Brooke Atkins, Julianne Libler, Hannah Pugh and Olivia Oyster set a time of 1:47.37 in the 200 medley relay to lead the Musketeers in the opening event.
- Sydney Smith placed fourth in the 1000 free with a time of 10:49.85 to lead Xavier in the event.
- Kali Fischer collected a second-place finish in the 200 back, setting a time of 2:04.22. She also placed third in the 200 free with a time fo 1:51.97 and scored in second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.59.
- Hannah Pugh collected a third-place finish with a time of 58.57 in the 100 back. She also led Xavier in the 100 fly with a time of 57.67, scoring in second.
- Kate Lair set a time of 1:07.31 in the 100 breast to lead Xavier, placing third. She also placed third in the 200 breast with a time of 2:27.38.
- Sophia Romero set the top time for a Musketeer in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:12.32.
- Olivia Oyster finished third in the 100 free with a time of 53.03. She also led Xavier with a time of 24.32 in the 50 free.
- Charlie Ramey led Xavier in the 500 free with a time of 5:15.22, placing second.
- Clare Bosse, Alexis Worrall, Oliva Oyster and Amy Van Son closed out the meet with a time of 3:33.93 in the 400 free to score in second place.
- Xavier finished with 78 points, falling to Louisville who finished with 181.

 UPCOMING SCHEDULE |
- Xavier remains at home to host an Alumni Meet next week, set for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15.
- The Musketeers will host a meet for the current squad to compete against program alumni at the Heidt Family Champions Center.
- The Musketeers will next face outside competition on Saturday, October 29, when Xavier takes on Denison, set for a 1:00 p.m. start.

- The Musketeer men are coming off a second-place finish at last season's BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships. Xavier collected six event championships and had 10 Musketeers earn all-conference last season.
- Nine of the 10 All-BIG EAST honorees return for the 2022-23 season. Andrew Martin earned the honor in six events and Ethan Saunders earned the honor in five events.
- Jon Bernard, Gage Hannewyk, Joey Mullen, Jack Parker, Will Serad, Nathan Wall and Ethan Wing all earned All-BIG EAST last season.
- The Musketeers added three transfers, T'Lez Foulkes from Howard, Seth Kibler from Florida Institute of Technology and Aiden Neuman from Penn State.
- Xavier also added a five person class of newcomers, Matthew Adanin, Ben Dupree, Kyle Hudson, Aiden Leamer and Jonathan Mason.

- The Musketeer women return nine All-Conference performers from last season's third-place finishing team at the BIG EAST meet.
- Among the returners is Kali Fischer who earned All-BIG EAST in five events. Alexis Worrall and Clara Keiser also earned all-conference in multiple events.
- Molly Dynda, Erin Merke, Erin Ritz, Emma Swabb and Reese Turner all earned All-BIG EAST last season as well
- Xavier's women added four to the roster for the season, transfer Charlie Ramey who joins Xavier from Vermont, and freshmen Emma Amon, Olivia Oyster and Sydney Smith.
