KWC is an NCAA Division II opponent.
CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University men's basketball team will host Kentucky Wesleyan College on Wednesday night at Cintas Center at 7 p.m. in its lone public exhibition game. The Panthers, who hail from Owensboro, Ky., play in NCAA Division II and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
Xavier, which was picked by the BIG EAST Conference coaches to finish second behind Creighton in the 2022-23 men's basketball race, return eight letterwinners from the 2022 team that won the NIT Championship. Sean Miller, who was the Xavier head coach for five seasons from 2004-09, returns to Xavier for his sixth season at the helm.
Junior Colby Jones and graduate student Jack Nunge, who were both named to the 2022-23 Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team, lead the Musketeer returnees. Nunge, who is on the Watch List for the 2023 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award that recognizes the top center in college basketball, led Xavier in scoring (13.4 ppg.), rebounding (7.4 rpg.) and blocks (1.4 bpg.) last season. Jones, who was named the 2022 NIT Most Outstanding Player, is on the Watch List for the 2023 Julius Erving Award that recognizes the top small forward in college basketball. Jones is Xavier's second-leading returning scorer (11.6 ppg.) and second-leading returning rebounder (7.3 rpg.).
After finishing last season with a record of 14-14 (9-11 G-MAC), Kentucky Wesleyan has been picked to finish fifth in the conference by the coaches. Wesleyan returns some key players from last year's squad led by senior guard Jordan Roland, who averaged 14.3 ppg. and 3.1 apg. last season. KWC also added seven new players this season, including three freshmen and four transfers.
Xavier celebrates Opening Night on Monday, Nov. 7 vs. Morgan State at 7:30 p.m. at Cintas Center.
