Men's Tennis to Host IUPUI on Friday

Musketeers will face Jaguars at 1:30 p.m. at Eastern Hills
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis will look for a fourth-straight win as the Musketeers host IUPUI on Friday, February 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Eastern Hills.
Following the match with the Jaguars, Xavier will next be in action at Indiana on Sunday, February 20 at 4:00 p.m.

IUPUI |
- The Jaguars are 1-6 on the season, coming off a 4-3 win over Illinois State last Saturday. IUPUI has also faced Michigan State, Northwestern, Dayton, Chicago State, Purdue and UIndy this season.
- IUPUI went 5-14 last season, going 1-7 in Horizon League play.
- The Jags fell to Cleveland State, 4-0, in the first round of the Horizon League tournament.
- Xavier last faced IUPUI in February 2020, a 7-0 sweep for the Musketeers in Indianapolis.

WEEKLY AWARDS |
- After helping Xavier pick up a third-straight match win, the Musketeers' No. 1 doubles duo of Ryan Cahill and Diego Nava were named the BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week.
- Cahill and Nava earned their second straight victory this past weekend, picking up the 6-3 win in No. 1 doubles against Youngstown State, earning the doubles point and helping the Musketeers to their third straight match victory.
- This is the first weekly award for Cahill, a freshman from Western Springs, Ill.
- Nava, a graduate student from Woodland Hills, Calif., was named the BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week for the week of 2/1/2022. He also entered the ITA Singles Rankings at No. 64 in the most recent rankings.

LAST TIME OUT |
- Xavier picked up a third-straight win on Saturday, topping Youngstown State, 5-2, at Eastern Hills.
- The Musketeers took the doubles point after Diego Nava and Ryan Cahill took a 6-3 win in the No. 1 singles court and Brett Winters and Cambell Nakayama took a 6-4 win in the No. 2 spot. Charlie Temming and Shashank Reddy were tied 6-6 in the No. 3 spot when the point was decided.
- Xavier went ahead 2-0 with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win in the No. 1 singles spot for Diego Nava and made it a 3-0 lead with Marco Pennelli's 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win in the No. 5 spot.
- YSU picked up a point in the No. 4 spot, taking a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Charlie Temming to make it a 3-1 Xavier lead.
- The Penguins made it a 3-2 Xavier lead with a win in the No. 6 spot against Caden Kammerer, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
- Brett Winters clinched the match for the Musketeers with a 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-1 win in the No. 3 spot.
- Xavier added another point to make it a 5-2 final score with a 4-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) for Ryan Cahill on the No. 2 court.

THE MUSKETEERS |
- The Musketeers returned eight letter-winners from last season, including Brett Winters, who competed primarily in Xavier's No. 1 singles spot, as well as regular singles players Cambell Nakayama, Shashank Reddy and Aaron Thompson. Dominic Macaluso, Pascal Mosberger and Jake Zipoli also return for Xavier.
- Xavier added five newcomers, including a three-person freshman class, Ryan Cahill, Marco Pennelli and Charlie Temming.
- The Musketeers newcomers also included a pair of transfers, Nick Loudermilk from College of Charleston and Diego Nava from Loyola Marymount.
