Musketeers Rally Late but Fall in Game Two at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, AL - After falling behind in the second inning, Xavier baseball put together a late rally to get the go-ahead run aboard in the ninth inning, but the Musketeers were unable to bring the runners around, falling, 5-4, in game two at Alabama.

Xavier took the early lead after Jack Housinger homered down the right field line in the first, his second homer of the season. Alabama responded with four runs in the second, holding the 4-1 lead into the seventh when the Musketeers made it 4-2 on a Tyler DeMartino homer. Xavier made it 4-3 in the eighth after Jerry Huntzinger was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and came home on a throwing error. The Musketeers had the tying run on third after Luke Franzoni singled and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches but were unable to get him home. The Crimson Tide added another run in the bottom of the inning on a home run to take a 5-3 run into the ninth.

A double from Andrew Walker and a walk from Jeff Holtz put the tying run on for the Musketeers in the ninth. With two on and one out, Eddie Rivero put the ball in play, sending Walker home to make it a 5-4 game. An Alabama error and a hit-by-pitch would load the bases for the Musketeers with two outs, but the Crimson Tide held on to take the 5-4 win.

The Musketeers are back in action tomorrow for the series finale, with first pitch set for 2:00 PM ET on SEC Network+.

XU AT THE PLATE

Jack Housinger went 1-of-3 with a home run, his second of the season. Housinger also took a pair of walks, two of Xavier's 10 on the day, and was hit by a pitch in the ninth to load the bases for the Musketeers.
Andrew Walker went 2-of-4 with a walk, coming around to score a run in the ninth after hitting a double to lead off the inning.
Tyler DeMartino went 1-of-4, with a home run, his first of the season.
Luke Franzoni went 2-of-6 at the plate.
Eddie Rivero picked up an RBI and also had two of Xavier's 10 walks.
Lane Flamm also picked up a hit, pinch hitting in the seventh.

XU ON THE MOUND

Bryce Barnett made the start in his first appearance as a Musketeer, going 1.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out a pair.
Miles Halligan entered for the final out of the second, and remained in to hold the Tide without a run for 2.1 innings, giving up two hits and a walk while striking out two.
Bobby Jones made his Xavier debut, entering in the fifth inning, holding Alabama scoreless for 2.0 inning, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out a pair.
Dorsey Chatham entered in the seventh, going 0.2 innings, allowing a hit and two walks before exiting.
Jared Gadd entered for the final out of the seventh and remained in for the eighth, going 1.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out one.
