Men's Tennis Heads to Nashville to Face Belmont

Musketeers and Bruins face off on Friday at 5 PM ET
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis travels to Nashville, Tenn., for a Friday evening match-up with the Belmont Bruins on April 1, set for a 5:00 p.m. ET start.
Following the match with the Bruins, Xavier will face Saint Louis in Terre Haute, Ind., before returning home to host Butler on Friday, April 8 for Senior Day.

- Belmont enters the match at 9-3, currently on a six-match win streak. The Bruins most recently faced Tennessee State, taking a 5-2 win.
- The Bruins went 13-5 last season with a 3-2 record in the OVC.
- Belmont topped Jacksonville State, 4-2, and Tennessee Tech, 4-3 in the OVC Tournament to win the conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
- The Bruins fell, 4-0, to Ole Miss in the NCAA First Round.
- Xavier last faced Belmont in 2014-15, a 5-2 Musketeer win in Cincinnati.

- After picking up his 10th single win of the season, Xavier men's tennis graduate student Diego Nava was named the BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
- Nava, originally from Woodland Hills, Calif., helped lead the Musketeers to a 6-1 team win over Villanova on Friday, moving the team to 10-5 overall and 2-0 against BIG EAST teams. Nava won his match in the No. 1 singles slot over the Wildcats' Josh Robinson, 6-3, 6-1. With the victory, Nava moves his mark in the top singles position to 10-1 on the season.
- This is Nava's third Singles Player of the Week honor of the season.

- Xavier picked up a 6-1 win over Villanova at Eastern Hills on Friday afternoon to move to 10-5 on the season, hitting the 10-win mark for the first time since 2015-16.
- In doubles action, Villanova took the first decisions, 6-1 on the No. 3 court over Charlie Temming and Shashank Reddy. The Musketeers responded with the next two decisions, with Diego Nava and Ryan Cahill taking the No. 1 court, 6-3, and Brett Winters and Cambell Nakayama taking the 6-3 win on the No. 2 court to get the point.
- Charlie Temming took a 6-3, 6-1 win on the No. 4 court to make it a 2-0 Xavier lead and Diego Nava picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win on the No. 1 court to make it a 3-0 lead.
- Brett Winters' 6-1, 6-4 win on the No. 2 court clinched the match for the Musketeers.
- Ryan Cahill picked up the fifth point on the No. 3 court, 6-4, 6-0 and Marco Pennell's 6-0, 6-2 win on the No. 5 court made it a 6-0 Xavier win.
- The final point went to three sets, with Caden Kammerer falling 4-6, 6-4, 10-5, on the No. 6 court to set the final score at 6-1 Xavier.

THE MUSKETEERS |
- The Musketeers returned eight letter-winners from last season, including Brett Winters, who competed primarily in Xavier's No. 1 singles spot, as well as regular singles players Cambell Nakayama, Shashank Reddy and Aaron Thompson. Dominic Macaluso, Pascal Mosberger and Jake Zipoli also return for Xavier.
- Xavier added five newcomers, including a three-person freshman class, Ryan Cahill, Marco Pennelli and Charlie Temming.
- The Musketeers newcomers also included a pair of transfers, Nick Loudermilk from College of Charleston and Diego Nava from Loyola Marymount.
