Musketeers Fall to Hoyas in Game Two

Series finale set for 1 PM on Sunday
WALDORF, Md. - Xavier baseball dropped game two of three with the Georgetown Hoyas, 6-4, on Saturday afternoon. Each team has a win with the rubber match set for Sunday afternoon.
Xavier took the 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Luke Franzoni solo shot, his 16th home run of the season. The Hoyas responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 2-1 lead, and added a run in the third to make it 3-1 advantage.
Runs in the fifth and sixth innings pushed the Georgetown advantage out to as many as five, 6-1, going into the seventh inning where the Musketeers cut the lead down to two.
Xavier posted a three-run inning after collecting four hits, including a two RBI double for Jeff Holtz and an RBI singel for Jared Cushing to pull the Musketeers within 6-4.
The Musketeers held the Hoyas scoreless the rest of the way but were unable to bring another run home to set the final score at 6-4.
The Musketeers and the Hoyas close out the series on Sunday, with first pitch set for 1 PM at Regency Furniture Stadium.

- Luke Franzoni went 2-of-4 with one RBI and a run scored. Franzoni's first-inning homer was his 16th of the season, tying him for most in a single season in program history. It was his 39th as a Musketeer, moving him into sole possession of third all-time for career home runs.
- Jeff Holtz (1-4) drove in two RBI with a double in the seventh inning. He also came around to score a run.
- Jared Cushing (1-3) also drove in an RBI in the seventh with a single.
- Andrew Walker went 1-3 with a walk, coming around to score a run.
- Tyler DeMartino and Garrett Schultz each collected a hit as the Musketeers finished with seven.
