Women's Tennis Wins 2022 BIG EAST Championship

Musketeers pick up second-straight title, earn automatic bid to NCAA Championship
CAYCE, S.C. - Xavier women's tennis used a dominating 4-0 win over the No.4 seed DePaul Blue Demons to bring home the program's second-straight, and third overall, BIG EAST Championship.
The Musketeers dropped just one set in the title match, held at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center, to take home a second-straight title. Xavier also defeated DePaul in the Championship match in 2021, as well as on the way to the program's first league title in 2016.
Following the tournament, Anna Smith was named the BIG EAST Most Outstanding Player for the Tournament after helping Xavier to the doubles point in all three matches, and winning in straight sets on No. 5 in each match of the tournament.
Xavier earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, marking the program's third trip to the tournament. The selection show set for Monday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. on NCAA.com

In doubles play, Kat Lyman and Anna Smith took a 6-0 win on the No. 2 court, the pair's fourth-straight win. Ahmeir Kyle and Anne-Sophie Courteau picked up a 6-3 win playing on No. 3 to clinch the point and put the Musketeers ahead 1-0.
Xavier quickly moved ahead 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 win on the No. 6 court for Blessing Nwaozuzu. Anna Smith made it a 3-0 lead with her fourth-straight singles victory, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Anna Roggenburk clinched the win for the Musketeers, winning her eighth-straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-2Â win on singles No. 4, setting the score at 4-0 in favor of the Musketeers.
Ahmeir Kyle led 7-6 (4), 2-0 on court No. 1 after battling through tie-breakers to take the first set when the point was decided. Imani Graham led in a second set after falling in the first, 4-6, 2-0, on No. 2 and Kat Lyman led in the second set, 6-2, 3-2 on No. 3 singles.
