Wyss and Marketing Department Collect Awards
CINCINNATI - Xavier Athletic administrators including those from academic, compliance, communications and marketing staffs attended the annual National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention in Las Vegas last month. The annual convention, held at Las Vegas' Mandalay Convention Center June 26-29, is NACDA's premier event, and the meeting is the largest gathering of collegiate administrators in the country. More than 6,500 attendees, including NACDA's 16 Affiliate Associations in addition to sponsors/exhibitors, were at the convention.
During convention week, several Musketeers were honored or participated in the event programming. Angela Wyss, Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, was recognized as the Lan Hewlett Award Recipient on Monday, June 27 from the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A). This award is named in honor of Mr. Lan Hewlett, a long-time advisor at the University of Texas, who is generally acknowledged as the first to provide academic support services to student-athletes.
"Angela Wyss is most deserving of this national recognition for her work in student-athlete academic support," said Susan Cross Lipnickey, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Resources and SWA. "Her initiatives and efforts, both within Athletics and across Xavier's campus, have resulted in increased academic success across all 19 of our sports."
The Musketeers' external team collected two awards during the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) annual "Best Of" Awards ceremony on Wednesday, June 29. The NACMA "Best Of" Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions with awards presented in 16 categories. Xavier received gold in the category for Best Intro Video for its 'Run This Town' video that debuted during the annual Crosstown Shootout with Cincinnati. Director for Marketing Hannah Martin, Assistant Director for Marketing Trevor Fontan, and Athletics Video Coordinator D'Andra Seymore led Xavier's work on the project in partnership with its partner 4th Floor Creative, a full-service, award-winning video production company based in Cincinnati. Xavier also collected silver in the category for Promotional Poster. The poster design concept of Xavier History included old logos and arenas, and was distributed at a men's basketball game. Creative design was handled by Hannah Martin and D'Andra Seymore.
Brian Hicks, Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations and NACMA Past President (2018-19), was one of three panelists as part of the NAATSO (National Association of Athletic Ticketing Sales & Operations) General Session on Developing & Launching New Facilities. Hicks joined administrators from Dayton and San Diego State on the panel, and showcased Cintas Center and the continuous development and renovations to the on-campus home of Xavier Athletics.
