Xavier scores in the 85th minute to seal the victory
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Xavier men's soccer opened the John Higgins Era with a 1-0 win at Virginia on Thursday night.
Brandon Osterholt delivered the game-winning goal in the 85th minute following a deflection by Kendall Allen via a corner kick.

• Sophomore Brandon Osterholt scored the first goal of his career on Thursday night. The UIndy transfer played in 27 minutes off the bench.
• Graduate transfer (UIndy) Kendall Allen recorded the eighth assist of his college career. The defender now has 24 career points (eight goals, eight assists).
• Redshirt-junior Cole Jensen (1-0) appeared in his first match in a Xavier uniform on Thursday night. The goalkeeper made eight saves and earned the shutout.
• The Cavaliers held a 19-3 advantage in shots and an 8-2 advantage in shots on goals. Xavier committed 11 more fouls (22-11) than Virginia. The Cavaliers also took one more corner kick (5-4) than the Musketeers.
• Xavier moves to 1-0-2 in the all-time series vs the Cavaliers. The win was Xavier's first over an ACC team since Sept. 4, 2017 (W, 3-2 2OT at No. 22 Boston College).
• The victory is the first win for John Higgins as the Musketeers head coach. He now has a 151-56-29 record in 13 seasons as a head coach.
• The Musketeers return to action on Sunday, Aug. 28 vs Eastern Illinois. First touch is set for 7 p.m. from Corcoran Field.
