Men's Tennis Opens Spring at Ohio State on Sunday

Musketeers and Buckeyes set for 3:00 p.m. match in Columbus
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis will open up the spring dual schedule for 2023 with a trip to Columbus, Ohio, to face Ohio State. The Musketeers and the Buckeyes will face off at 3:00 p.m.
Following the match against OSU, Xavier will return home to host NKU at Eastern Hills on Friday, January 20, set for a 5:00 p.m. start.

- Ohio State will open its season at noon on Sunday against NKU before facing the Musketeers.
- The Buckeyes went 28-4 last season with a 7-0 record against Big Ten opponents.
- OSU took 4-0 wins over Michigan State and Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament to advance to the Championship match, falling 4-2 to Michigan.
- Ohio State earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship, taking 4-0 wins in the first two rounds over Youngstown State and Columbia. The Buckeyes topped No. 13 USC 4-2 in the Super Regionals and got the 4-2 win in the rematch with No. 5 Michigan to advance to the Final Four. OSU fell to No. 9 Kentucky, 4-1, in the semifinals
- The Buckeyes took a 6-1 win over Xavier last January in Columbus.

- Xavier men's tennis wrapped up the fall tournament schedule at the Bellarmine Invite in Louisville, Ky. Xavier combined to collect 23 wins facing off with players from the host Knights, as well as Lindsay Wilson and Eastern Kentucky.
- Xavier collected six singles wins against Bellarmine in singles play, then picked up four more wins against the Knights in doubles action.
- Against Lindsay Wilson, the Musketeers had an 8-2 record in singles play and collected four more wins on the doubles courts.
- Xavier also collected a singles win against EKU.
- Deacon Thomas posted a 6-0 combined record through the tournament to lead the Musketeers in wins.

- The 2021-22 Musketeers finished the season at 12-9 overall, the most wins since the 2015-16 season. Last year's squad advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since 2016 after earning the No. 3 seed, the program's highest seed in the BIG EAST Championship since joining the conference in 2013-14.
- Among the returners from last year's team are All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Ryan Cahill, as well as Marco Pennelli, Charlie Temming, Cambell Nakayama, Pascal Mosberger, Shashank Reddy,  Aaron Thompson and Jake Zipoli.
- Xavier also added a trio of newcomers, including transfer Jorge Santamaria, as well as freshmen Deacon Thomas and Kyle Totorica.
