Women's Tennis Hosts NKU, Travels to Notre Dame this Weekend

Musketeers and Norse face off at 2 PM on Friday at Eastern Hills; XU and Notre Dame play at 11 AM on Sunday
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis open up the home portion of the spring schedule, hosting NKU at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, at Eastern Hills as part of a double header with the men's squads. The Musketeers will then travel to South Bend, Ind., to face the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame on Sunday, January 22, set for a 11:00 a.m. start.
Xavier heads out on the road for a pair of matches next weekend, traveling to Dayton on January 27 at 5:00 p.m., then heading to at Miami (Ohio) on Jan. 29, set for 3:00 p.m.

 NORTHERN KENTUCKY |
- The Norse opened the season on Thursday afternoon against Eastern Kentucky, taking the 4-3 win over the Colonels in Richmond.
- NKU went 4-12 last season with a 1-5 mark in Horizon League play.
- Northern Kentucky fell 4-1 to UIC in the Horizon League Quarterfinals.
- Xavier faced the Norse last season, taking the 6-1 win at Eastern Hills.

 NOTRE DAME |
- Notre Dame will open the spring season with a pair of matches on Saturday, playing Michigan State at 11 AM and Butler at 4 PM.
- The Fighting Irish went 13-12 overall last season and 5-9 in ACC play.
- Notre Dame fell, 4-0, to Florida State in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
- Xavier last faced Notre Dame in 2006, a 6-1 win for the No. 22 Irish.

- Xavier opened up the spring season at Penn State, falling 5-2 to the Nittany Lions. Kat Lyman went 2-0 on the day after helping Xavier to the doubles point and picking up the win in No. 2 singles.
- Xavier took the doubles point, with Emily Flowers and Paulina Franco Martinessi taking the first decision, in the No. 3 spot, with a 6-3 win. Imani Graham and Abigail Siminski fell 6-1 in the No. 2 spot before Kat Lyman and Abby Nugent combined for the 7-5 win in the No. 1 spot for a 7-5 win to secure the point.
- Penn State tied the match and moved in front 2-1 with wins over Abigail Siminski in the No. 4 spot (6-0, 6-1) and Imani Graham in the No. 1 spot (6-3, 6-2).
- Kat Lyman took a 6-2, 7-5 win in the No. 2 spot to tie the match back up at 2-2, moving her to 2-0 on the day.
- Penn State took the final three singles courts, with Abby Nugent falling in three on No. 3 (6-3, 2-6, 6-4), Blessing Nwaozuzu playing on No. 5 (6-0, 6-2) and Emily Flowers playing on No. 6 (6-3, 6-2).

 THE MUSKETEERS |
- The Musketeers wrapped up the 2022 spring season at 14-10 overall, brought home the program's third overall and second-straight BIG EAST Championship and earned Xavier's third bid to the NCAA Championships.
- Five letterwinners return from last season's BIG EAST Championship squad, including All-BIG EAST selection Imani Graham, Kat Lyman, Anna Roggenburk, Blessing Nwaozuzu and Bella Kirby.
- Xavier also added four-person freshman class, Emily Flowers, Paulina Franco Martinessi, Abby Nugent and Abigail Siminski.
