Xavier, No. 3 Akron Play to Scoreless Draw on Saturday Night

The Musketeers remain in first place in the Midwest Division of the BIG EAST standings
CINCINNATI -Â Xavier men's soccer played No. 3 Akron to a scoreless draw on Saturday night at Corcoran Field.
Xavier moved to 6-3-3 (3-1-1 BIG EAST), while the Zips remained unbeaten at 9-0-5 (2-0-3 BIG EAST).
Xavier remains in first place in the Midwest Division of the BIG EAST Men's Soccer Standings.
The Musketeers recognized seniors Lotem Ben Dov, Paul Bogarin, Makel Rasheed and Matthew Trakszelis prior to the start of the match.

• Xavier took one more shot (13-12) than Akron, while the Zips had two more shots on goal (5-3). Akron took one more corner kick (6-5) and committed three more fouls (14-11).
• Nine different Musketeers took a shot in the match, paces by Grayson Elmquist, Cooper Forcellini, Ernest Mensah Jr. and Guilherme Vivaldini who all took two shots. Elmquist, Vivaldini and George Waites each took a shot on goal for the Musketeers.
• Jonny Mennell (6-3-3) made five saves and recorded his fifth shutout of the season. He also lowered his goals against average to 1.00 GAA.
• The Musketeer defense held the Zips without a goal for only the second time this season. Akron was also held scoreless vs Notre Dame on Sept. 19.
• Mitch Budler (9-0-5) made two saves in goal for the Zips. Seth Wilson played the final 42 minutes in goal, recording one save.
• Xavier limited the nation's leading goal scorer, Jason Shokalook, to five shots (one on goal) in the match.

• Xavier closes out the home portion of it schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 18 vs Butler. First touch is set for 7 p.m. from Corcoran Field.
