Musketeers and Huskies set to get underway at 1 PM on FloSports
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's soccer (9-2-3; 2-0-3 BIG EAST) heads back out on the road for a Sunday afternoon match-up at UConn. The Musketeers and the Huskies are set to get underway at 1:00 p.m. on FloSports.
In the third week of conference play, Xavier sits in second place with nine points, trailing first place Georgetown, which has 11 points at 3-0-2. The Musketeers are to 2-0-3 in BIG EAST action after playing No. 12 Georgetown to a scoreless draw on Thursday, and are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll this week. Xavier remains ranked in the top 25 by College Soccer News (No. 19) and comes in at 28 in the most recent RPI.

- UConn, which was picked sixth in the BIG EAST preseason poll, is 5-2-4 overall and currently sits in third in the league standings with eight points. The Huskies are 2-0-2 in BIG EAST play after having a bye on Thursday.
- The Huskies opened up non conference play with a pair of wins, over Creighton and St. John's, and played Georgetown and Marquette to scoreless draws.

- Shelby Sallee also has a team-high matching five goals on the season, scoring in four of the last eight matches.

- Xavier remained unbeaten in BIG EAST action after playing No. 12 Georgetown to a 0-0 draw on Thursday evening at Corcoran Field.
- Xavier held an 8-2 advantage on shots in the first half, with a 3-1 advantage on shots on goal, but the teams went into halftime scoreless.
- After the break, the Hoyas created more offensive pressure, taking five second-half shots, but the Musketeers were able to counter, finishing the second period with a 10-5 advantage on shots and a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks earned.
- Xavier also had a 2-1 advantage on looks on-frame after halftime, but neither team was able to find the back of the net, setting the final score at 0-0.
- Xavier finished with a 18-7 advantage on shots overall and a 5-2 advantage on shots on-goal.

WEEKLY AWARDS |
- After helping Xavier stay unbeaten in BIG EAST play, graduate student Madison Ayson was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
- In Xavier's 1-0 win over Villanova last Thursday, Ayson scored the eventual game-winner from in front of the goal off a pass from Kennedy Clark in the 66th minute.
- The goal was her second of the season, and first game-winner. She has five points on two goals and an assist.
- Ayson, a defender from Rocklin, Calif., also played over 40 minutes in both matches last week, helping limit Villanova to five shots in Xavier's win, and Seton Hall to six shots in the 1-1 draw, keeping Xavier unbeaten in conference play.

- Following the match with UConn, Xavier has a bye on Thursday before returning home to host St. John's on Sunday, Oct. 15, with the Musketeers also celebrating Senior Day ahead of the match. The Musketeers and the Red Storm will get underway at 1:00 p.m. on FloSports.
- The Red Storm, currently sitting at 7-4-2 overall, were picked to finish third in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll. SJU is currently 2-3 in league play, sitting in eighth in the standings. St. John's opened up league play with losses to Georgetown, UConn and Seton Hall before picking up back-to-back wins over Villanova and Creighton.
- St. John's went 7-5-7 overall and 4-2-3 in BIG EAST play in 2022, earning the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. The Red Storm played UConn to a 1-1 draw in the BIG EAST First Round, advancing on PKs. Xavier took the 3-1 win in double overtime in the semifinals.
- The Musketeers are 3-7-1 all-time against the Red Storm.
- Xavier played the Red Storm to a 0-0 draw in Queens during the 2022 regular season, then topped St. John's 3-1 in double overtime in the Semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship. Emma Flick scored the equalizer in the 79th minute to force overtime. Molly McLaughlin knocked in the game-winner in the 95th minute and Chloe Netzel scored the third tally in the 98th minute.

2022 SEASON |
- Xavier, currently receiving votes in the USC poll, is coming off a 14-4-5 season in 2022.
- The Musketeers went 6-0-4 in BIG EAST play to finish second in the league standings, marking the first unbeaten conference slate in program history.
- Xavier earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship for a second-straight season, the program's fifth NCAA bid overall.
- In the NCAA Tournament, Xavier advanced for the second time in program history with a 4-1 double overtime win at Tennessee in the first round.

THE MUSKETEERS |
- The Musketeers return 19 letterwinners in all from last season, and added a pair of transfers in addition to a 10-person freshman class for the 2023 season.
- Xavier returns a trio of all-conference honorees from last season, with goalkeeper Maria Galley and defender Natalie Bain earning All-BIG EAST Second Team and All-Freshman Team honors, and forward Regan Dancer picking up a nod to the All-Freshman squad.
- Bain and junior midfielder Ella Rogers were selected to the 2023 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
