Doug Matthews Adds Transfer Elizabeth Pendergast to Women's Tennis Roster

Pendergast comes to Xavier after competing with Cincinnati for two spring seasons
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's tennis coach Doug Matthews announced the addition of Elizabeth Pendergast to the Musketeers' roster, coming to Xavier from the University of Cincinnati. Pendergast, a Cincinnati native, was an AAC All-Conference performer at UC, collecting 35 combined wins in dual matches in two spring seasons with the Bearcats, including 17 singles wins in the No. 1 spot.
During the 2023 dual season, she had a combined 17 wins, picking up eight singles wins on No. 1 spot, as well as nine doubles wins. In 2022, Pendergast helped lead Cincinnati to 16 wins, including the longest win streak in program history with 11 straight match victories.
She was named to the 2022 American Athletic Conference All-Conference team after earning a combined 18 wins during the dual season, including nine wins in the No. 1 singles spot and nine doubles wins.
During fall 2021 tournament schedule, she went 8-1 in singles and 5-1 in doubles, earning a No. 121 national ranking from ITA.
Prior to her time at UC, Pendergast was a standout at Saint Ursula Academy in Cincinnati, earning a four-star rating by TennisRecruiting.net. She was the 2021 OHSAA Division I Singles State Champion, earning GCTCA Division I Player of the Year, GGCL Player of the Year, GCCL First Team Singles selection, and Cincinnati Enquirer Player of the Year that season.
Pendergast was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team following each of her two complete seasons at Cincinnati.
She is the daughter of Jack and Dawn Pendergast and has two siblings, CJ and Ben. Her mother, Dawn, played basketball and softball in college, and her brother Ben was a member of the track and field program at Tiffin.
