Souley Boum's 24 points lead four Musketeers in double figures
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Four Musketeers hit double figures in a back-and-forth battle for the top spot in the BIG EAST, but No. 11 Marquette hit the final basket of the night, giving Xavier the 69-68 setback on Wednesday evening. Souley Boum led all scorers with 24 and the Musketeers moved to 19-7 overall and 11-4 in BIG EAST play. Marquette moved to 21-6 overall and 13-3 in conference play.
An early 11-0 run for the Musketeers put Xavier in front early, leading by as many as 13, 19-6, before Marquette's offense got going, outscoring Xavier 15-4 over the next seven minutes to make it a two-point game going into the final minutes of the first half before Xavier went into the break up four, 28-24.
Marquette opened the second half with an 8-0 run to take a 32-28 lead three minutes into the half, and neither team led by more than five the rest of the way. Xavier took a three-point lead into the final 30 seconds, but a four point burst for MU put the Golden Eagles ahead by one. Jack Nunge gave the Musketeers a one-point lead on a layup, but a Marquette basket in the final seconds set the final score at 69-68 in favor of Marquette.
