Musketeers Get Bats Going Against No. 20 Oregon but Fall in Both Games of Doubleheader

EUGENE, Ore. -Â Xavier baseball collected 16 hits on the day but were swept in the Saturday doubleheader against No. 20 Oregon at PK Park.
In game one, Oregon jumped out to a 6-0 lead, scoring on home runs in each of the first three innings. The Ducks added three more runs in the fourth on a two-RBI single and an RBI double to take a 9-0 lead.
Xavier got on the board in the fifth inning, with Alex Helmin reaching on a throwing and advancing to second on a throwing error. Garrett Schultz hti a one-out single up the middle to bring Helmin in. Schultz advanced to second, then came home on an RBI single to right field for Jack Housinger, setting the final score at 9-2 for the seven-inning outing.
In game two, the Musketeers struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on a Jack Housinger home run in the third inning. The Ducks got the run back in the bottom of the frame, then moved in front in the fifth inning with a two-RBI single and a two run homer, leading 5-1 into the sixth. In the top of the six, Carter Hendrickson got aboard on a fielder's choice after Teddy Deters hit a one-out single, then came around to score after Garrett Schultz bunted and reached on a throwing error to make it a 5-2 game. In the eighth, Deters made it a two-run game, hitting his first career home run to cut the lead back to 5-3. Xavier brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but were unable to get the run across, falling 5-3.

- Brant Alazaus made the start in game one, going 3.1 innings, allowing nine earned runs on seven hits and a walk, striking out four.
- Connor Bailey entered with one on and one out in the the fourth inning, allowing two hits and no runs in 1.2 innings of work.

- Luke Hoskins pitched 3.0 scoreless innings to close out the game, only allowing one hit.
- Teddy Deters (2-of-4) hit his first career home run in the eighth inning, finishing with a pair of hits, a run and an RBI.
- Jack Housinger (1-4, 1BB)Â Â hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the third to give Xavier the early lead.
- Three other Musketeers, Grant Stephenson (2-5), Matt McCormick (2-4) and Jared Cushing (2-5) recorded multi-hit games. Xavier finished with a 10-6 advantage on hits.
