Men's Tennis Faces Tennessee State at Tennessee on Sunday

Musketeers face Tigers on Sunday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m.
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis (8-4) travels to Knoxville, Tenn., to face the Tennessee State Tigers on Sunday, March 12, set for a 1:00 p.m. start at the University of Tennessee.Â
Next weekend, Xavier will travel to Philadelphia to face Villanova and Temple.

- The Tigers are 3-9 on the season with wins over Jacksonville State, Tennessee Southern and Northern Illinois.
- TSU went 6-20 last season with a 2-2 record in the OVC.
- The Tigers fell in the Semifinals of the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference tournament to Tennessee Tech, 4-0
- This is the first match-up between the two programs.

- Xavier took a 4-0 win over Southern Indiana on Saturday to wrap up a two-match day at Eastern Hills.
- In doubles play, Southern Indiana took a 6-1 win on the No. 3 court over Jorge Santamaria and Kyle Totorica, but a 6-2 win on the No. 2 court for Shashank Reddy and Charlie Temming, and a 6-4 win for Deacon Thomas and Pascal Mosberger on the No. 1 court clinched the point for the Musketeers.
- In singles play, Xavier took wins on the No. 2 court, 6-2, 6-3, for Pascal Mosberger, on the No. 3 court, 6-2, 6-0, for Marco Pennelli, an the No. 4 court, 6-4, 6-4, for Jorge Santamaria, to set the final score at 4-0.
- When the match was decided, Deacon Thomas was in a third set after splitting the first two 6-3, 3-6 on No. 1. On No. 5 Charlie Temming was in a 3-3 draw on No. 5 and Shashank Reddy led 4-0 on on No. 6.

- For the week of Feb. 20, Xavier moved in the ITA team rankings, coming in at No. 61. It marked the first time Xavier was ranked since February 2013, when Xavier came in at No. 73.
- The 2021-22 Musketeers finished the season at 12-9 overall, the most wins since the 2015-16 season. Last year's squad advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since 2016 after earning the No. 3 seed, the program's highest seed in the BIG EAST Championship since joining the conference in 2013-14.
- Among the returners from last year's team are All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Ryan Cahill, as well as Marco Pennelli, Charlie Temming, Cambell Nakayama, Pascal Mosberger, Shashank Reddy,  Aaron Thompson and Jake Zipoli.
- Xavier also added a trio of newcomers, including transfer Jorge Santamaria, as well as freshmen Deacon Thomas and Kyle Totorica.
