Baseball Matches Season-High Runs in 16-8 Win at Wright State

Xavier took the first inning lead, scoring two runs on two hits, with Matthew DePrey driving in Jack Housinger with a double after he took a lead off walk, then coming around to score on a passed ball. The Raiders got a run back in the bottom of the frame.Â
The Musketeers posted a big inning in the second, scoring five runs on three hits, with DePrey hitting a two-RBI single after the bases were loaded with Alex Helmin, who was hit by a pitch, and Connor Misch and Jack Housinger got aboard with a walk. A throwing error brought in Housinger and Jared Cushing drove in two more runs with a single up the middle to make it 7-1 going into the bottom of the second.
Wright State scored a pair in the next frame, cutting the Xavier lead to 7-3, but Xavier posted another big inning at the plate in the third, scoring four runs on five hits, with an RBI single from Andrew Walker, followed by a three-run homer for Matt McCormick. WSU added three in the bottom of the inning, but Xavier held the 11-6 lead into the sixth.
Xavier added four more runs on five hits in the sixth, with Connor Misch, Jack Housinger and Matthew DePrey driving in the runs.
The Raiders would get as close as 15-8 after scoring two in the seventh before another run in the ninth, driven in on a sac fly from Garrett Schultz, set the final score at 16-8.
Xavier hosts a four-game series with Northern Illinois this weekend, set to get underway on Friday, March 31 at 5:00 p.m. at Prasco Park in Mason. The series continues at Hayden Field with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon and the series finale set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

- Jake Zicka pitched the seventh inning, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout.
- Clay Schwaner entered in the eighth, pitching the final 2.0 innings without allowing a run. He gave up just one hit and finished with three strikeouts.
