CINCINNATI -Â Xavier opened up a three-game series with NIU with an 8-3 win at Hayden Field on Friday afternoon, moving the Musketeers to 14-12 on the season.
Xavier took the lead in the first, getting five runs on four hits, including a three-run homer from Carter Hendrickson, an RBI double from Andrew Walker and an RBI single from Matt McCormick.
The Huskies picked up a run in the second, but the Musketeers got it back in the third on a solo home run from Tyler DeMartino. Xavier added tow more in the sixth on a two-run homer from Jack Housinger to pu tthe Musketeers up 8-1.
NIU scored a pair in the seventh, setting the final score at 8-3.
The series continues at Hayden Field on Saturday, with game two set to start at 1:00 p.m. on FloSports.

- Ethan Bosacker made the start, allowing one earned run on three hits in 5.0 innings of work, finishing with eight strikeouts to two walks. Bosacker picked up the win to move to 3-1 on the season.
- Carter Hendrickson made his debut on mound for the Musketeers, going 1.0 inning after switching from right in the sixth inning. Hendrickson allowed two runs on three hits and finished with a pair of strikeouts.
- Nathan Stahl entered in the seventh, going 1.0 innings, not allowing a run or a hit and finishing with a strikeout.
- Creighton Hansen pitched the final 2.0 innings, not allowing a run, giving up just one hit and one walk and striking out three.
